Finally done with the winter work on the bike ,new rear tire, rear bearings checked and packed splines lubed, rebuilt forks with progressive springs drained, flushed and refilled cooling system, replaced old stock 2 brush starter with new 4 brush unit, and new AGM battery. The bike starts the best it ever has cold ,but still cranks hard hot ,any ideas on what I should be looking at next to cure that problem ?

Did you do the upgrade to #4 AWG cables to the starter and ground? There are 3 cables that need to be upgraded. This will allow the power that the starter needs to actually get there.

no i havent done the cable upgrade yet,is it possible /probable that the solonoid could be breaking down and drawing to much with heat

Well, I suppose that could be a remote possibility, but do the battery cable upgrade first, it may amaze you!!

These lop eared genius varmints are right on target Jox - do it - you wont regret it!!,, thinking if it were mine I would also double check the little hose that is connected to the #2 cylinder sync nipple on the intake manifold - its that vacuum line that sets up your ignition timing.. I would just take a peek and make sure all is well there too just for the heck of it..:biker:

By the way - THANKS for keeping yet another one of these great big beautiful 1st Gens on the road my friend!!:thumbsup:

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about Jox - GOOD ON YA BROTHER!!! Got er ready to start, flyyy down open highway and absorb any misplanted pot holes, lap up twisties like a lop eared varmint VR member taking down a Banana Nut Ice Cream cone and stop on a dime - who can ask for anything more!!:big-grin-emoticon::big-grin-emoticon::big-grin-emoticon::big-grin-emoticon:

Let this be a lesson to any motorcycle rider out there who has not yet joined this ingenious group of mechanical/electrical misfits - they could solve most, if not all, the worlds biking problems if people would take time to listen and spin the wrenches:thumbsup:!!!

:ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886,,,, Jox!!!
