Wizard765 Posted April 2, 2016 #1 Posted April 2, 2016 Ok all you folks that obviously know more than me.. Last summer my son in law backed into the front wheel of my bike and luckily it didn't fall over BUT it swung around enough to break off the tab that stops the handle bars from going too far.. anyhow I have acquired a good lower tripple tree with the tabs in tact.. Question I have is how hard is that to replace and how much of the front end do I need to remove to get at it?
MikeWa Posted April 2, 2016 #3 Posted April 2, 2016 I thought the steering stops were on the frame. Mike
Wizard765 Posted April 2, 2016 Author #4 Posted April 2, 2016 yes the stops are on the lower triple tree AND the frame.. but the stop that broke is on the lower triple tree
MiCarl Posted April 3, 2016 #5 Posted April 3, 2016 You will literally have to remove everything that is attached to the forks or steering head.
bongobobny Posted April 3, 2016 #6 Posted April 3, 2016 Yah Wayne, it all has to come apart! You may as well put some new progressive springs in it while you have the front forks off...
Wizard765 Posted April 12, 2016 Author #7 Posted April 12, 2016 ALRIGHT!! On Saturday spent some time over at Marcarl's working on replacing the lower triple tree.. My son in law was helping me and we work well together. It was actually kind of fun and the job was way less than I was anticipating. Already had the front fairing, windshield etc off so just had to remove the front wheel and Loosen the frame for the fairing to get it to move a little out of the way. Then we could drop the forks and remove a few brackets. Undid the bars and had enough play to just get them out of the way. Was way easier with two people than it would have been alone.. Happy camper now..
bongobobny Posted April 12, 2016 #8 Posted April 12, 2016 Soooo, did you rebuild the forks while they were off??? Some people are satisfied with the Sonic brand of springs just as much as the Progressive brand on 2nd gens...
