Swapping for V-Max Cams

Hey,

 

So i've been looking at people doing performance upgrades on their Royal Star's and Ventures and i keep seeing people mentioning swapping cams. I decided to check on the pricing of cams and i found some cams for 60 bucks each and i wanted to know what i would need to do a cam swap and for someone to confirm im looking at the correct thing to purchase, (I'm assuming i have the purchase the front and rear?) I'm looking at these cams right now assuming they are the front and rear.

I'm going to have a mechanic install them most likely.

Probably want to change the valve springs also.

Yeah i had found a post on Delphi i believe, showing what you need to order to do a camshaft upgrade. Thank you for the reply though!

I believe this is the kit that he is referring to;Yamaha 96-98 royal star 1300 performance power kit w vmax camshafts adds 20 horse power to bike and will rev higher rpms. This is a kit designed by Yamaha to do this and these are all new and genuine yamaha parts.

Kit includes these items :

2- 1fk-1218100-00 camshaft 2 (vmax)

2- 1fk-12171-00-00 camshaft 1 (vmax)

16- 36y-12114-00-00 outer valve springs

16- 36y-12113-00-00 inner valve springs

1- 4nk-82305-00-00 control unit

These items total to roughly $1800 if purchased seperately.

In order to install this kit you will need some (6) gaskets and a chain joint.

I'll include a list of these part numbers along with the kit

 

Personally I don't think that his carbs are big enough to make it perform properly
