SilvrT Posted March 23, 2016 #1 Posted March 23, 2016 Why - At 70 yrs, I don't belong on face book! Should I Really Join Facebook? (Priceless) Read it all the way through! It's a good laugh! AND really quite true!! A good laugh for people in the over 70 group !!! When I bought my Blackberry, I thought about the 30-year business I ran with 1800 employees, all without a cell phone that plays music, takes videos, pictures and communicates with Facebook and Twitter. I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their spouses, my 13 grand kids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space. My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything except the bowel movements of the entire next generation. I am not ready to live like this. I keep my cell phone in the garage in my golf bag. The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a box under my tool bench with the Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I drive. I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble talking to my wife and everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. I had to take my hearing aid out to use it, and I got a little loud. I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside that gadget was the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would sarcastically say, "Re-calc-u-lating." You would think that she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then if I made a right turn instead. Well, it was not a good relationship... When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross streets and while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me. To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn how to use the cordless phones in our house. We have had them for 4 years, but I still haven't figured out how I lose three phones all at once and have to run around digging under chair cushions, checking bathrooms, and the dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings. The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the grocery store. You would think they could settle on somethingthemselves but this sudden "Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just knocks me for a loop. I bought some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused, but I never remember to take them with me. Now I toss it back to them. When they ask me, "Paper or plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I ambi-sacksual." Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blank look. I was recently asked if I tweet. I answered, No, but I do fart a lot." P.S. I know some of you are not over 70. I sent it to you to allow you to forward it to those who are......Not me I figured your sense of humor could handle it....We senior citizens don't need anymore gadgets. The TV remote and the garage door remote are about all we can handle.
BlueSky Posted March 23, 2016 #2 Posted March 23, 2016 I love my smart phone but I haven't been able to bring myself to get on twitter or facebook. I'm 72.
etcswjoe Posted March 23, 2016 #3 Posted March 23, 2016 I finally broke down and bought a smart phone last winter and I have realized it does everything well except make and receive phone calls.

cowpuc Posted March 23, 2016 #7 Posted March 23, 2016 in Canadian that's "Pretty smart eh?" SEE!! THAT is a perfect example of just how much smarter than me my Trak Phone really is "eh"!!! It's so smart that it probably would have known that - telling ya,, it's a really smart phone for not being a Smart phone "eh" Now ya did it, ya'll (done got corrected by one of those suthin States varmints before too) went and got me started "eh".. :scared:just figured something out,,,,, I'll be shoehorned,, I'm a multi lingoed Puc,,, eh...
Larry1963 Posted March 23, 2016 #8 Posted March 23, 2016 Funny. My kids all have smart phones and are on them all the time. I do have a smart phone and FB, but FB is not on my smart phone. I use my smart phone for calls, text, GPS, I get lost a lot too, and email. sometimes I lookup some trivial piece of knowledge. I remember the days, back in 81 when I first joined the military and was stationed in Del Rio TX. I bought a 1980 Suzuki GS1000 and decked it out with fairings and bags, and road it all over the country without a credit card, or a cell phone, with only a few bucks in my pocket. Boy how life has changed. larry
SilvrT Posted March 23, 2016 Author #9 Posted March 23, 2016 I'm a multi lingoed Puc,,, eh... ... and ambi-sacksual prolly too ... eh
cowpuc Posted March 23, 2016 #10 Posted March 23, 2016 ... and ambi-sacksual prolly too ... eh Yep,,, I was ambi-sackual before being ambi-sackual was cool eh.. I gotta admit though, I come about my ambi-sackualism honestly because I always just grab what ever is handy on my way out the door so I dont Tweet in the store eh..
BlueSky Posted March 24, 2016 #11 Posted March 24, 2016 I got my first smart phone in 2010. I didn't really feel the need but I am an engineer and I didn't want to get left too far behind on the new technology. My wife told me she (elec eng) didn't want one. Both of us got iphone 4S phones. Now we are addicted. we upgraded about a year ago to iphone 6 for me and samsung 5S for her. The weatherbug app is the neatest thing. I can see an updated weather radar map any time which is a great help if anything is planned for the outside such as my 45 minute walk or a cycle ride. Access to the internet ain't bad too. And the camera is excellent. My wife uses her phone and chrome cast to stream Russian tv shows to our television. And the built in gps works better than my Garmin.
Yammer Dan Posted March 24, 2016 #12 Posted March 24, 2016 With the plastic I can carry a whole shopping trip worth of Grub in one trip!!! I did get a Trak phone to take with me when I'm out. 70?? Thats old folk....I'm just a young feller!!:backinmyday:

snyper316 Posted July 31, 2016 #15 Posted July 31, 2016 Im an elcheapo kinda person so I got an zte at&t gophone it does me justice and takes good pictures its the best phone i have seen in that range lol checked on the samsung and i will be darned if i will pay more for my phone then i do for a set of tires for my truck it just dont make sense to me but nothing really does anymore i grew up with ataris and vic 20s and spent 80% of my time taken things apart to see how they worked riding my horse, go cart, Mini Bike, Bicycle, 3 wheeler, all bought cheaply at an auction, Helped dad overhaul a motor and trani and working on his vehicles, never really had time or care to mess with electronics much. But i do like the fact on a smart phone i can transfer money from account to the next inside of walmart and now they have this pay by phone which i like that too i find that pretty cool so i dont have to pull my wallet out i just aim at the crazy looking square and my reciept is right there in my walmart app or on my computer... what i dont like but i do find myself using them cause sometimes im in a hurry is the auto checkouts but there a pain telling me to bag my item when its much too big to bag or unexpected item in bagging area.... gets quite annoying i dont even want to think of when im 70 and what things will be like then..... im an 80s kid and thats what facinates me is how much technology has changed say we wanted instant pictures we had a polaroid camera i thought it was the neatest thing.... now we just snap and the picture is there we can retake and delete it if we dont like the outcome...
gggGary Posted July 31, 2016 #16 Posted July 31, 2016 I was going to say you know you're getting old if you can remember being on a party line..... Then I realized facebook is just a party line with pictures
venturesome Posted July 31, 2016 #17 Posted July 31, 2016 I am 71 and can remember as a boy living in the country, the phones were not available. I remember distinctly (it was a big deal), when the phone company finally ran lines past our house and we got our first phone. Then we moved to town and our phone # was "1636". That's it, 4 numbers!
