SilvrT Posted March 22, 2016 #1 Posted March 22, 2016 Appears not according to this article .... http://www.adweek.com/adfreak/samsung-just-made-motorcycle-windshield-checks-your-texts-calls-and-emails-170294 Next it will be in a HUD on a car windshield.
Zzyzx Posted March 22, 2016 #2 Posted March 22, 2016 Last thing I want to do when out for a ride is answer a phone or check an email. That's why I get out and ride in the first place, to get away from all that junk.
eagleeye Posted March 22, 2016 #3 Posted March 22, 2016 I'm with zzyzx. I put my phone on airplane mode when I'm riding. Could care less who calls when I'm riding.
Sailor Posted March 23, 2016 #4 Posted March 23, 2016 I don't even have a cell phone or any of those other gizmos. I have an answering machine and that is it.
stickhandle2 Posted March 23, 2016 #5 Posted March 23, 2016 When it is time to ride the phone goes into the trunk, maybe I will check it when I stop for a coffee or whatever. Mike
Marcarl Posted March 23, 2016 #6 Posted March 23, 2016 Oh come on guys,,, really!!! how could I do without my phone, even for a minute!!! somebody might tweet something about me and it might even be good,,,, I need to know ASAP. Another good way for clearing out the gene pool,, too bad the pool often drowns the unsuspected.
Condor Posted March 23, 2016 #7 Posted March 23, 2016 I find it funny that here in California where IF CAUGHT they'll give you a ticket for using your cell phone while behind the wheel, but on those electronic signs it sez to call 911 to report drunk drivers.... While riding I just leave it on vibrate in the vest pocket. It'll take a missed call message. I'll call back if it's from the Power Ball folks...
ReinyRooster Posted March 23, 2016 #8 Posted March 23, 2016 As if riding isn't dangerous enough with the cagers being distracted....now we're going to distract the riders too!! WOW!
Eck Posted March 23, 2016 #9 Posted March 23, 2016 Just had a friend killed Saturday in Summerville,Al. He was on his way to a charity ride, and was turning in to the parking lot where everyone was meeting up for this ride. Those attending this charity ride were all in the parking lot when she hit him and many of them watched it unfold as they heard the sounds of metal crunching and tires screeching. I see the attached article states she will NOT be charged, yet she hit him from the rear???? ( That just don't make sense to me) http://whnt.com/2016/03/22/motorcyclist-dies-after-being-hit-by-car-on-way-to-charity-ride/

Sad Day, sorry for your loss Eck.
SilvrT Posted March 23, 2016 Author #11 Posted March 23, 2016 Recently here a young woman received her 14th distracted driving offense. A while ago they changed the laws so that anything over 4 would mean 3 points against their licence ... one would think by 14 they'd be losing the licence. Apparently not in this case ... just another $167 fine. Now they're upping the penalties. I'm all fo that but what purpose does it serve if they don't drastically increase enforcement.
Doug royal86 Posted March 23, 2016 #12 Posted March 23, 2016 The law in Indiana no text and drive. Its hard for the cops to ticket people when they are on the computer driving down the road.
rbig1 Posted March 23, 2016 #13 Posted March 23, 2016 well my phone is on the handle bars streaming music and charging. you know if you get a call. but don't answer back till stopped off road. I had to have it that way as parent was on lifeline. and I needed to handle the phone tree. No one else seamed to be around when needed. Had to text them.
Larry1963 Posted March 23, 2016 #14 Posted March 23, 2016 I get a lot of calls and text, one of the reason I ride is to get away from that mess. I am not much into all that technology and streaming stuff, I listen to the local radio station if I want music. I throw the phone in my trunk and go. What is funny friends, people I work with, and family know I am out on a ride, they call and get pissed off that I didn't answer the phone or text. Today people think when they want to talk to you they should be able to talk to you right now. For some reason they think they own your time. So leaving the phone, letting voice mail pickup, or answering machine, is a good reminder for others that they do not own you. Enjoy the ride, leave all the worldly crap behind, except GPS......
aharbi Posted March 24, 2016 #15 Posted March 24, 2016 No thanks. I've come too close to missing too many turns sightseeing let alone trying to text. I can receive and make voice bluetooth calls. Thats as far as I want to go.
Midrsv Posted March 24, 2016 #16 Posted March 24, 2016 Unlike most of you, I do take calls while on the bike. I have a business where clients need to reach me to schedule a job and if I don't pick up they just call a competitor. My phone is set up to bluetooth to my Garmin and the sound is wired into my helmet. This way I can enjoy my rides and not miss out on a little income. Dennis

Dennis This is the only way it should be done....You never have to take your eyes off the highway.
Larry1963 Posted March 25, 2016 #18 Posted March 25, 2016 No thanks. I've come too close to missing too many turns sightseeing let alone trying to text. I can receive and make voice bluetooth calls. Thats as far as I want to go. One of my favorite things to do is just get on the bike and ride, come to a new paved road and say lets see where that goes. Half of the time I am semi lost. But like you, I get sightseeing and miss turns and other things. When I had a Wing I would ride out a tank of gas, then fill up and turn on navigation and head home. I recently had to buy a GPS for my bike, so I can do the same.
Sailor Posted March 25, 2016 #19 Posted March 25, 2016 When I go for a ride I go to enjoy the ride, everything else can wait. As I said I don't have any of those electronic gizmos so people can keep track of me and grab me whenever they feel like it. I just have the answering machine and people seem to like the message I put on it. " You have reached the number you have dialed. If you are begging, borrowing or selling please hang up now, otherwise leave a message, I might even get back to you." My time belongs to me and no one else, except for She Who Must Be Obeyed.
