A1tech2u Posted March 19, 2016 #1 Posted March 19, 2016 Replaced starter first and bike still cranked slow. Bought a new battery and bike cranked over fine then forgot and left the key on for a few days and then recharged battery. Went to start bike and it would only turn over slow no matter if the charger was on it in boost mode or not. I made jumpers with ilets for the ground and positive positive.
OutKast Posted March 19, 2016 #2 Posted March 19, 2016 Please indicate 1st gen (pre-93) or second gen (96 or later). Major differences in the electrical system and internally inside the starter. The best thing is to go into your profile and set it so the year shows up under your name when you post. Plenty of help will show up after that.
djh3 Posted March 20, 2016 #3 Posted March 20, 2016 Yea I'm thinking maybe check out the connections on the engine block side of ground, the connection on the solenoid (if second gen) and then maybe the contacts on the ignition switch are getting pitted, again if second gen. Just thinking of poor contact points mainly.
GeorgeS Posted March 20, 2016 #4 Posted March 20, 2016 If this is an older bike, also, check for High resistance Across, the RUN/STOP RED SWITCH on right handlebar. They do get cruddy, and go high resistance with age, Also, do a resistance check thru the Ignition Switch, On/ Off contacts. Charge battery overnite, and check the resting voltage next morning. ( New batteries do go bad, its happened to me before ) If you need another one, get an AGM DRY CELL type, DEKA BRAND !!! Also, if old bike, you might need a new STARTER SOLINOIDE. The contacts in side them get burned up with AGE !! If this is a 50K plus miles bike, and solenoid has never been replaced, most likely you should replace it. Give us more details on your bike, Whats the year, and how many miles on it. HAS IT BEEN STORED OUTSIDE ???? or always garaged ??
Eck Posted March 20, 2016 #5 Posted March 20, 2016 Did you do a LOAD test on the battery yet? If not I would start there even though you said you re-charged it after leaving the key on..
