How easy is it? Anyone have a written plan? I'd like to do it with a drain and fill.. taking very little apart.. I also want a cushiony feel.. so what viscosity oil?

Thanks for help...

ITs not to bad. Bike on a lift or jack. Remove front wheel as there are a couple bolts up in the fork under where the axle bolt goes you have to remove to drain the oil. I went up one weight on the fork oil. I think 5w is OEM, I went with 10w syn from cycle gear. Its a bit teadiuos getting the fluid in. I used a syringe to measure.

I went to 10 weight BelRay Synthetic. I used a might-vac with the collection cup to refill my front forks. Put the lower bolt back in and pull the schrader valve. Hook up the Vac pump and fill the (measured) collection cup. Pull 2 psi of vacuum, invert the cup and slowly release the pressure and it will suck the oil into the front forks. I figure if the front forks can handle 7psi of pressure it shouldn't have and issue with 2 psi of vacuum, seals are still good 2 yrs later.

1. A mighty-vac can be had from Harbor Freight or Amazon for $40

2. You can rig up a tube and funnel system to feed into the schrader valve, but that's going to be a slow process.

Syringe?

Large syringe like you would use when injecting a marinade into meat. Most have a screw-in needle that you wouldn't need in this instance, as the "tip" alone should be small enough to fit inside the schrader valve.

So how much fluid in each fork? And I don't have mighty vac.. can I just pour fluid in?

553ccs=18.70 ounces. Use a squeeze bottle and a hose with a big enough id to fit over schrader valve.

Thanks for the replies-- Will give it a shot in a few.. Finally dropped bike off to get carbs worked out.. Fork oil when it comes back.

Remember you need to leave some air bleed space when installing the fluid. I used a syringe, a tube slightly smaller than the hole, so air can escape as you are introducing fluid into the fork. Just have to go slow.
