920shrek1 Posted March 6, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 6, 2016 Hi guys I'm in process of rebuilding my starter in my 86 venture. My question is I opened it up and it's has a lot of back grimy grease in it is this normal and should I clean it out and is suppose to have grease in there thanks
Prairiehammer Posted March 6, 2016 Share #2 Posted March 6, 2016 The black grimy stuff is most likely carbon residue from the brushes. Since you have it out, it would be a shame to not replace the stock two brush with a four brush. Here's one for $56 plus shipping. Jus' sayin'. http://www.ebay.com/itm/311440481033?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT And here is one that the seller has listed since November and has a "Make Offer" possibility. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131646204706?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
paysaw Posted March 7, 2016 Share #3 Posted March 7, 2016 I totally agree. Just switch the starter. For all the trouble it takes to pull in off and put it back on, this is the way to go.If you get a used one though, spend a few bucks and rebuild it.Easy and inexpensive to do.Your bike will start like a sports bike.
