sho_greg Posted March 5, 2016 #1 Posted March 5, 2016 I'm about to install some Amber LEDs... I need a wire to tap into around the lower fairing area.. Don't want to take the front off... I am gonna install the lights around the highway peg area.. Give it that wide look. Wire colors would be great. images/smilies/smile.png
djh3 Posted March 5, 2016 #2 Posted March 5, 2016 There are some fuses in the right front fairing, but they are a PIA to get at. You either drag a wire from over in the main fuse box area and put it on a switch. Or pull the front fairing and get some power there.
videoarizona Posted March 5, 2016 #3 Posted March 5, 2016 Greg, I ran my front LEDs (replacing the reflector) straight up the shock into the front fairing area. You can see the wire wrap looking like factory going up the fork leg in first picture. Steve @M61A1MECH sent me some 1 to 2 taps to plug into the factory wiring harness, located on the port or left side of the fairing near the headlight (right side looking from front). So installation was easy. Rear LED's (replacing the reflectors) were routed into the saddlebag guard (its hollow) then went up under the passenger seat to the taillight running light wires. Really not hard to do. david
DblTrbl Posted March 5, 2016 #5 Posted March 5, 2016 where did you get the LEDs to replace the reflectors? I like that!! M61A1MECH Posted March 5, 2016 #6 Posted March 5, 2016 Greg, I sell some 1 to 2 and 1 to 3 taps made from bullet connectors, I know you said you did not want to take the front apart, but inside the fairing the running lights and turn signals circuits are connected to the main harness using single bullet connectors, to me that is the best place to tap in. With my back to back taps, there is no cutting of wires, no soldering, just split the fairing, mount your lights, run the wires, add a male bullet provided with my kit to you new wires, unplug the stock bullets, plug in my tap and connect all the bullets to the tap, close the fairing, ride on. Here is a link to some photos of the taps. http://s40.photobucket.com/user/royalsteve/library/One%20to%20Two%20bullet%20jumpers I do not have prices with me right now, but can get that to you easy if you are interested. I also make light bars for the rear and trailer harnesses if you ever need them, see my adds in the vendor classified section.
videoarizona Posted March 5, 2016 #7 Posted March 5, 2016 where did you get the LEDs to replace the reflectors? I like that!! Found them on ebay. Similar to these... http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-LED-Reflector-Tail-Brake-Stop-Marker-Light-Truck-Trailer-RV-ATV-Motorcycle-RED-/161984641532 Two parameters: 1: Size match - get close enough and you can trim them to fit the reflector mounts. 2: Make sure they are three wire. Ground, running and brake (I use the brake wire for blinkers) This way my two reflector LED lights, red rear and yellow front, are on all the time and blink with turn signals. I used Steve's bullet connectors to tap into the factory wiring in the front fairing and it was an easy installation. Took longer to fit the units into the reflector mounting bracket then anything else. If memory serves, I had to enlarge a hole so the LED light would fit flush and trim a bit off of one end. Once wired in and fit, I put waterproof goop in back to protect unit and connected wiring. david

Sorry for the Sho,,, just got swept up in the moment...
videoarizona Posted March 5, 2016 #9 Posted March 5, 2016 Yea...guess I hijacked thread as well. Sorry Greg. Steve can help you with wiring colors if you do decide to go through the front fairing for front power. Rear seat power is easy as well. Both wire colors can also be found in the schematics found in the tech section (manuals). I also may be going into the fairing area for another project in the middle of next week. So if you aren't in a hurry, I can take some pics and post them to show you how easy the front wiring solution is... Let me know if I can help.. david

djh3 Posted March 7, 2016 #11 Posted March 7, 2016 I also converted the reflectors to LED. I also made up the wires so they would work as run/turn lights. Mine came off e-bay from a place that actually is a trailer supply outfit in like Iowa. Name escapes me right now. But their stuff is made in USA
vzuden Posted March 7, 2016 #12 Posted March 7, 2016 Maybe the trailer place was in Illinois? These guys have lots of parts http://www.randpcarriages.com/
videoarizona Posted March 7, 2016 #13 Posted March 7, 2016 Greg, I sent the wire colors in previous post. Here's what my front end looks like with Steve's wire terminals. Very simple, I did it myself! Grins! Looking at the interior after removing the front fairing. Close up of the wiring bundle after adding the connectors.
