b2dad Posted March 3, 2016 #1 Posted March 3, 2016 Hi folks. Sorry we haven't been on here in awhile. Don had surgery (total knee replacement) on January 12. Recovery has been slow and he is still in therapy. We have been holed up in Southern Alabama for the winter and I am getting the itch to hit the road. Hoping to head out around the first week of April, heading west (Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, California, nevada, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado), not necessarily in that order. LOL!! Not sure we can do all that in 6 months or so, and see all that I want to see, but going to give it a shot. Can't give you all a timeline of where we will be on what date, but will try to keep you posted. Would like to stop and see some VR members along the way, if possible. We are towing a 43' 5th wheel, so would appreciate suggestions of nearby campgrounds to stay at. Or if you know of good campgrounds in any of these areas, would appreciate knowing which ones you like and which ones you didn't. Certainly can't depend on a campgrounds website / pictures; as we have found out!! Hope everyone has had a good winter and looking forward to riding season. Patti and Don
cowpuc Posted March 3, 2016 #2 Posted March 3, 2016 Prayers Up for Don and the therapy Patti - hope all is well!! Big Bend NP in Texas is amazing, lots of room to manuver a rig like yours in their camping area too. you happen to go thru Minnesota on the way to dakota's,, town called Blue Earth has an rv park at their fair grounds, couple nights free camping allowed with FULL hookups provided,,, home of Jolly Green Giant.. California has a place called "the slabs", abandoned military base.. its a wild place BUT lots of retired people gather there and have their own little private world.. You can find all kind of stuff about it on Youtube or google - lots of crazy hippy's but also many many good folks too. some folks stay there year around cause its free and off the grid. Tip n I end up heading wet this year again it would be great to see you two on the road,,, buy ya a hot dog or something.. LOTS of great VR members in those states you mention,, dont forget to keep us updated so they can connect if possible!! Have a GREAT summer!! Puc
Eck Posted March 3, 2016 #3 Posted March 3, 2016 Patty, Konnie and I are also heading west, leaving the 2nd week of April but we are going in a counter clockwise direction as to where you are talking about a clockwise direction. It would be AWESOME to meet you guys someplace out west as we pass by each other. The states you mention are all on our bucket list, and we plan on seeing them and a few more. We will be in touch more so when April rolls around in hopes we can meet up with you guys. Kick Don in the shin and tell him that's from Eck. Make sure you kick below the "good" knee...... Eck
b2dad Posted March 4, 2016 Author #4 Posted March 4, 2016 Thanks for the info Puc. Definitely keep it in mind. We should definitely meet up on the road. would love to meet up with you, Eck and Konnie. Keep me posted on your whereabouts. And no way am I kicking Don anywhere on his leg. Lol. I've invested too much in this knee!!!
b2dad Posted March 16, 2016 Author #5 Posted March 16, 2016 Well, here's an update to my earlier post: Our travel plans have been put on hold for now. Don is going back under the knife next Tuesday. The new knee is not healing like it should so the surgeon is going to open the original incision, clean out the scar tissue & possibly put a new joint in the top part of the knee. At the very least, I hope the pain finally goes away. He's been hurting 24 / 7. Will keep you posted. Patti

Marcarl Posted March 16, 2016 #7 Posted March 16, 2016 Now you got me worrying over you two. Best I can do is ask the Great Physician for His input, so consider it done!
Carbon_One Posted March 16, 2016 #9 Posted March 16, 2016 Sorry to hear of Don's set back. You both are in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck for Don getting healed properly. Larry & Joyce
BuckShot Posted March 16, 2016 #11 Posted March 16, 2016 Sending prayer's Patti. Hope everything else is going fine. We all are thinking of you two.
BuckShot Posted March 16, 2016 #12 Posted March 16, 2016 Gail and I had so much fun with Don and Patti when they stopped here for a week last year. I just ran an elec. line out from my barn and they backed up to it. Can't wait for them to make it back to Ohio so they can stop again...maybe for a longer time period this time. Wishing you both a funfilled time traveling.
