I want to let everyone know that my web host, 1&1.com, has deleted my two web sites. One of which, traynorphoto.com, I have posted links to from time to time to share photos of various trips. I tried to go to my sites yesterday and discovered some kind of placeholder there. I logged into them with my FTP client and found that all of my directories and files were gone. I contacted 1&1 and was basically told that the website builder tools that I had been using had been discontinued and therefore my sites were deleted. They said I should have received an email. What a bunch of crap. I had thousands of photos from many trips there. I still have all of the photos and some of the site structure backed up. But I have lost quite a bit of the file structure. I'm going to move to a different host before I start rebuilding. So, if you see a link in a thread to pointing to traynorphoto.com, it won't work. Anybody know of a good web host?

That's insane. I understand discontinuing the sitebuilder tools, but I cannot fathom deleting the files.

I hadn't heard of 1 & 1. A quick look at their offerings looks like they're selling shared hosting. Shared hosting is inexpensive but performance can be poor if they overload the server your sites are on.

You might have a look at webhostingtalk.com. There you can see what other hosting users think of the various providers.

GoDaddy is a great hosting co. Been using them for several years to host various websites, email, etc for my work.

At work I've had experience with several hosting companies and have moved from one to another multiple times. GoDaddy has been the best so far.

That really sux that they did that. They said they notified you? ... For such a drastic action, you should have received several notifications!

I've been with iPage for a few years and have had no problems but my use is very simple.. They are inexpensive. The one time I needed to contact them the experience was good. They support a few ways to build your site.. But like SilverT says GoDaddy has been around a long time with no issues I'm aware of..

One thing I like about GoDaddy is you can call their support and talk to someone without much waiting. They've always been extremely helpful. And you don't get someone in Pakistan that you can't understand.

So sorry to hear this Dennis.

I know you spent hours attaching those beautiful pics & memories.. I enjoyed looking at them from time to time too.

Sorry!
