1997 RSTD ignition problem

Hello all,

 

I have a 1997 RSTD that is only starting while in neutral. If it is in gear with the kickstand in the up position, its a no go. I believe my kickstand switch is working as it kills the bike when I have it in gear, clutch pulled in and I drop the kickstand into the down position. I figure its an ignition switch or neutral safety switch or some other electrical issue, but really dont have a clue.

 

I did read this post http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?87293-1997-RSTD-ignition-bypass-variation about doing a bypass on the thing, but got lost along the way.

 

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Just as an update, I did find this http://www.manualslib.com/manual/612305/Yamaha-Xvz1300tf.html?page=38#manual

which is telling me it may be a clutch switch. Any thoughts?
