Eck Posted February 13, 2016 #1 Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) Just wondering if anyone here has ever seen a head light switch like this one.. D = Driving P = Parking - (Edit: P= Passing per Cowpuc..I do think he is right on this one) Edited February 14, 2016 by Eck
Freebird Posted February 13, 2016 #2 Posted February 13, 2016 I have. But dang if I can remember where.
cowpuc Posted February 13, 2016 #3 Posted February 13, 2016 Nope,, never did..,,, take that back,,, Yep, saw one recently.. Buddy of mine has a really cool old electric powered Minibike that he is restoring.. He showed that switch to me and said it was for the lights, said that you move it to the left for driving and to the right when you were parking.. I told him I thought he may be mistaken, that "D" was for driving and "P" was for passing. That in the "D" position the lights were all on and they were taking juice from the batteries, in "P" position the lights were all off and all the power was now passed on to the scoots cool little motor - a sort of electrical turbo boost.. He thought I was nuts but I still think he will find out I was right when he finally test rides his pretty little Electro Bike, moves that switch when he's in motion and does a wheelie in front of his neighbors. They will all smile and laugh and probably yell something like "GOOD THING YOU LEFT THAT CREEPY SKELETON THINGY ON THE BACK OF YOUR WING CAUSE HE WOULD HAVE FALLEN OFF AND BROKEN HIS ARM OR SOMETHING".. The End
cowpuc Posted February 13, 2016 #4 Posted February 13, 2016 I have. But dang if I can remember where. Hey ya gull derned lop eared Road Glide ridin varmint,, there's one on that Harley of yours,,, its called a "CDS" or Cloaking Device Switch,, "P" is for presentational mode and is used when surrounded by other Harley's - has a homing device built into this mode that will automatically make you appear anytime your near places like Milwaukee Wisconsin or Sturgis South Dakota,, works GREAT too. "D" is for disappear and is used when hanging out with folks who are riding 83/84 MK1 1st Gen Yamaha Ventures and is activated automatically when ever those 1st Gen riders see you in their rear view mirror... :duck::duck: :duck::duck:
djh3 Posted February 14, 2016 #5 Posted February 14, 2016 Seems I remember a switch like that on the Britt bikes from like late 60's early 70" maybe.
Eck Posted February 14, 2016 Author #6 Posted February 14, 2016 (Quote) I told him I thought he may be mistaken, that "D" was for driving and "P" was for passing. You know @cowpuc, you just may be right there buddy. I never thought of or heard of it explained that way before and after thinking about it you just may be right.. Safety would be impacted while passing since lights would go off, but I think you are right on about having the extra voltage / power there.. So,,,,,,,,,, with all joking put aside, is this something you know for a fact there buddy? If so, I will change the wiring to do just that!
cowpuc Posted February 14, 2016 #7 Posted February 14, 2016 Yea Eckster,,, I am pretty sure I am right,, at least I think so,,, well,, maybe not but it might be true.. Probably the best way to find out, before you do anything with your wiring, is to roll er out to the end of the driveway while your neighbor is out watering his bushes.. Park the scoot and walk over to your neighbor,, tell him a guy on the internet said your minibike has a turbo that is controlled by a little switch on the handlebar. Then ask him if he would mind taking a video of you going by the front of his house on the bike. After he gets all set up and a crowd has gathered, go down the road a little ways on the bike, turn around and go toward the crowd (make sure you have a signal worked out with your neighbor that tells you he is videoing and that he gives you the signal he is taping you), BEFORE you throw the switch - lean wayyy forward over the front wheel - tuck your arms down toward the fake gas tank - leave your right foot on the peg where the brake is and stretch your left leg out over the back of the bike.. You wanna do this with your left leg so, first of all, you can steer with your toes like a rudder should the front wheel come up and you lose your steering and second of all, you can keep yourself from going all the way over backwards in front of the crowd (this is NEVER a good thing). ,, this is really getting lengthy,, probably lost ya back at parking your bike at the end of the driveway:scratchchin: :lightbulb:Why don't we meet at Don's Maintenance Day this year.. You bring the scoot, I will bring the camera and explain the above and make sure you got it all downpat before you try it.. You can then test it in front of a group of people who probably won't think you went off the deep end or something.. Keep the peace in your neighborhood and all that:happy34:
Eck Posted February 14, 2016 Author #8 Posted February 14, 2016 Not so sure I can make it to Don's MD this year, (going out west), but I hope I can make it up this year. It has been 3 years I think since the last time I was up there (Sorry Freebird). As for changing the wiring, I only have to remove the headlight and move two wires...(an easy fix). Thanks for the info Cowpuc! U-B-DA-MAN
