SilvrT Posted February 13, 2016 #1 Posted February 13, 2016 I'm looking for some sort of dog carrier that fits on top of the gas tank that my dog can ride in safely and securely. I know these products are available, just don't know where. Any ideas, links much appreciated. Our dog will max at around 10 Lbs.
Freebird Posted February 13, 2016 #2 Posted February 13, 2016 Advanced Google Search. Motorcycle Tank Dog Carrier. "Motorcycle tank dog carrier" Just posted how I found these in case the link doesn't work for some reason.
uncledj Posted February 13, 2016 #3 Posted February 13, 2016 I'm teaching my dog to ride my first gen...I'll ride the second gen right alongside him. He's very smart.
Great White Posted February 13, 2016 #5 Posted February 13, 2016 What do I use? A truck and a dog carrier. Dogs and bikes don't mix IMHO. Too much risk for the dog. I like taking my dogs with me where I go, but I have to weigh the risk to them because they can't. I know lots of guys will differ, just how I feel about it.

I saw a guy once on a Wing pulling a small flatbed trailer behind. Strapped onto it was a large dog cage/carrier and in it was his dog. So I thought ... "seems to me a bad idea coz the dog would be breathing all the exhaust fumes ..." THAT I would not do!
uncledj Posted February 13, 2016 #7 Posted February 13, 2016 Can't remember where I saw it but there was a fella who cut a hole in the top of his saddlebag big enough for his little dogs head to fit out of, but not big enough for the dog to climb through. Put the dog in the saddlebag and close the lid....dog sticks his head through the hole and he's stylin'. .....was a pretty good idea.
Trader Posted February 13, 2016 #8 Posted February 13, 2016 1 dog in each saddlebag and one in a pouch on my wife's chest. That one usually ends up on my shoulder. (relax....she's tethered!)
MikeWa Posted February 13, 2016 #9 Posted February 13, 2016 Similar to this. Harness attached inside. Mike
Huggy Posted February 13, 2016 #10 Posted February 13, 2016 I'd need a side car, and I can't afford a side car for my dog. She weighs just as much as the wife!! Now if I can just train her, the dog, to sit behind me I'd be all set! There's just no training the wife, been trying for years and it just hasn't worked out!

Chaharly Posted February 14, 2016 #12 Posted February 14, 2016 Ive pondred over making a trailer for the bike with a big cushion and a wind screen and still have a little room for storage. Dog rides in the back of the truck pretty often, I think he understands that we're moving. Hes bright enough
saddlebum Posted February 14, 2016 #13 Posted February 14, 2016 I was planing on making a miniature replica of a horse trailer with air bag suspension for my Airedale, but then he passed away and since I haven't got another dog yet it kind of went on hold
Chaharly Posted February 14, 2016 #14 Posted February 14, 2016 These guys have me thinking that maybe there might be too much exhaust fumes... I don't wanna poison the guy :/
saddlebum Posted February 15, 2016 #15 Posted February 15, 2016 These guys have me thinking that maybe there might be too much exhaust fumes... I don't wanna poison the guy :/If that were the case then there would a lot of dead livestock out there since most livestock gets trailer-ed.
GeorgeS Posted February 15, 2016 #16 Posted February 15, 2016 My brother in law solved this problem, bye mounting a Side Car on his Harley, his wife rides in the Side Car, and holds the dog on her lap !! It works great !!!
SilvrT Posted February 15, 2016 Author #17 Posted February 15, 2016 If that were the case then there would a lot of dead livestock out there since most livestock gets trailer-ed. In the case of a big rig, the exhaust is pushed up and over the trailer sufficiently. If a single trailer behind a pickup, the exhaust is low and passes under. In the case of a dog in an open cage which is directly behind the exhaust of the bike, I find it hard to believe the dog wouldn't be breathing some of the fumes. JMO here though and I would not want to subject my dog to the exhaust of the bike regardless of how much or little it may be.
Sylvester Posted February 15, 2016 #18 Posted February 15, 2016 My dogs (all seven) stay home and eagerly await my return. Dogs don't belong on motorcycles.
Larry1963 Posted February 16, 2016 #19 Posted February 16, 2016 I thought about getting a sidecar for my dog, one that I could strap him in but so he could see out of. I do not like the idea of putting them on a trailer, and mine is to big to ride in a cage somewhere on the bike As for now, my dog has to stay home and pout while I am on my bike
cowpuc Posted February 16, 2016 #20 Posted February 16, 2016 I'm teaching my dog to ride my first gen...I'll ride the second gen right alongside him. He's very smart. Yea..poor dog has to slum it. Heyyyyy,, Tweeks and I heard that.....

I was literally talking about a miniature version of a closed in horse trailer properly vented to eliminate fumes just as any well built full size horse trailer. Many people with show dogs travel this way. Edited February 16, 2016 by saddlebum
