anyone know how much weight the trunk rack can take.i want to remove trunk and add a 10 gallon auxillary tank

I would not feel comfortable with more than 40 or 50 pounds, 10 gallons of gas would weigh 60 pounds plus the weight of the tank but this is only my personal opinion hopefully someone will have the actual numbers for you.

Sorry should have noted that bike is attatched to a sidecar so dont have to worry about being top heavy only how much weight the carrier for the box can take

I installed the stock trunk rack on my 2013 and Yamaha info stated not to exceed 10 pounds. Personally I feel that is somewhat conservative so would consider exceeding that by a few pounds. Remember that additional weight may lift your CG to an uncomfortable riding position. Just my

I take it your not riding with a passenger on the back either? You could weigh the trunk and add 20 pounds which I believe was the max load for the trunk on a first gen that would give you a reasonable idea.

Thanks that answers the weight question ,will have to have carrier strrengthened to add tank to where the trunk went.
