Trader Posted February 7, 2016 #1 Posted February 7, 2016 With ripping into my bike I've been doing a LOT of searching for how to do things. First let me say this forum has made it possible for me to do a LOT of upgrades and repairs that I would never even think of doing without major assistance. But there is so much great information hidden in threads entitled "help needed for my '83" or similar. The reponse to these threads could go anywhere but....lets say the diagnosis leads to a a problem with a misfire that leads to carb float adjustment.... My suggestion is for the responder to start a new thread with the detailed response on how to measure and adjust floats and just tell the OP to check that link. That way it would be easy to migrate those specific threads into the tech library and it would be there for future use. Like I said...so much good information is buried in threads with titles I would never think of checking out. Just my 2 cents (even though we no longer have cents in Canada!)
Huggy Posted February 7, 2016 #2 Posted February 7, 2016 If we had any cents we wouldn't live in this frozen, snow covered wasteland and we would move some nice warm place.
Flyinfool Posted February 7, 2016 #3 Posted February 7, 2016 Many time the OP has no clue what the problem is, let alone what to even ask. It is usually all of us asking a lot of questions to narrow it down and then the gory details of how to fix it will emerge. I understand that this makes it hard to find the info for the next guy. There are probably not many questions left that have not already been answered somewhere on this site. If everyone could find all of their answers what would be left for us to talk about?
Guest Jamsie Posted February 7, 2016 #4 Posted February 7, 2016 it would prob take a lot longer searching through all the threads than getting answers from asking questions . a small detail in the symptoms can point to a totally different fault , besides , a lot of the members enjoy helping others fix their problems. Not everyone is comfortable with a spanner in hand and a little help goes a long way. even if you have a good idea of the cause , someone will pick up on something you didnt
MiCarl Posted February 7, 2016 #5 Posted February 7, 2016 I think Trader makes a good suggestion. Problem is everyone needs to cooperate and that would never happen. Besides, I'll be there are not a large percentage that have any idea how to present a link in a post. Look at how much trouble Don has herding advertisements into the classifieds......
