BlueSky Posted January 31, 2016 #1 Posted January 31, 2016 I was on my subdivision walk and I saw a new Motorcycle in a neighbor's driveway and stopped to admire it. He sold his BMW LT1200 that had 119k miles on it and replaced it with a shiny new Kawasaki Concours. He said he had wanted the new BMW 1600 but could not bring himself to spend $30k for a motorcycle and got a special deal on the Concours for $10k. He rides 70 miles/day to work days it doesn't rain. Anyway here is a photo of a bike like his new one. Except he has already put a matching trunk on the rear. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/TOYzCNhEazc/maxresdefault.jpg As a post script, I told my wife about it and she said I should sell both my old bikes and buy a new bike!
Hummingbird Posted January 31, 2016 #2 Posted January 31, 2016 If I hadn't seen the Kaw on the cowling I would have taken it for a BMW
Freebird Posted January 31, 2016 #3 Posted January 31, 2016 Not my cup of tea but a beautiful bike. Ironmike here sold his RSV a while back and bought a new Concours also. He loves it.
camos Posted January 31, 2016 #4 Posted January 31, 2016 That's a very nice looking bike. Far too nice to be mistaken for a BMW.
M61A1MECH Posted January 31, 2016 #5 Posted January 31, 2016 Should be pretty easy to de-badge that puppy and then let folks guess what it is.
sleepy2 Posted January 31, 2016 #6 Posted January 31, 2016 I looked at one in 2012 but hadn't tried one out and thought it might be bad for my back and shoulders with the forward lean. Was also looking at 2012 Harley Road Glide ($35,000) so ended up buying Royal Star Venture which I have ridden. My decision and have no regrets. Did try out the same bike as your friend when I took bike in for service and was glad I didn't buy one as it was bad on my shoulders and back. That is my opinion but may be different for you. Nothing wrong with that bike and I have thought about it some times but that was more when I was a bit younger. Good luck!! Nice looking bike tho!!
M61A1MECH Posted January 31, 2016 #7 Posted January 31, 2016 I looked at one in 2012 but hadn't tried one out and thought it might be bad for my back and shoulders with the forward lean. I had similar concerns when I test rode an FJR a number of times, not so much back and shoulders being the problem, but to much weight on my wrists and the FJR has small diameter grips, I had cramps in both hands before the demo ride was over, I tried the FJR on at least three more demo rides just to be sure
BlueSky Posted January 31, 2016 Author #8 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) I don't think I want one either. I'm sure it's much nicer and better designed than the 2004 Concours I had for a couple of years but my 04 was extremely top heavy and hard to control at low speed. There were spacers available to raise the handlebars to help alleviate the necessity of leaning forward too much. Your feet are also a little high folding the knees. After all, it is a sport tourer. And being a sport tourer the rake was less than a touring bike which combined with the high cog contributed to it being tippy. I probably would have kept the 04 if it hadn't been so tippy. The gas tank mounted up top held 7.5 gallons of gasoline which weighed 45 lbs. (The new ones have a little bit smaller tank.) I could have been happy with it otherwise. And leaning forward a little was not bad on my back at all. The fairing and windshield protected me from the elements very well and kept my helmet in a very quiet zone. Those water cooled engines last a long time. It's nice to know my wife would be okay with me buying a new bike. Actually, she would prefer that I sold my old clunkers and bought a new one. But, I'm just too cheap to spend that much money on a bike and then I would feel like I'd have to buy full coverage insurance too. Edited January 31, 2016 by BlueSky
Guest Jamsie Posted January 31, 2016 #9 Posted January 31, 2016 i personally wouldn`t buy that bike as i have a VFR800 alongside my RSV, which me and my wife did 6k miles touring uk and ireland last year. VFR is the best sports tourer out there, so i wouldnt go for an inferior bike , my opinion please dont flame
BlueSky Posted January 31, 2016 Author #10 Posted January 31, 2016 I heard good things about the VFR.
BigLenny Posted February 1, 2016 #11 Posted February 1, 2016 I love the Connies. But, I wouldn't buy it because it doesn't have a cruise control. For the life of me, I do not understand why Kawi doesn't care enough to put a cruise on it. Yamaha has finally done that with the FJR. That is the final piece that would make that bike a true sport "tourer".
BlueSky Posted February 1, 2016 Author #12 Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) A throttle lock would be sufficient with a 688 lb bike with a 1352 cc, 140+hp engine. Edited February 1, 2016 by BlueSky
garyS-NJ Posted February 1, 2016 #13 Posted February 1, 2016 That kaw looks way fast. My brother has a 2000something vfr8 and it's beautiful but he says he's also thinking of adding a super fast big bike like the hybusa or big Honda cbr
