If the Feds get their nose in it, it will never see production at that price. I told my wife we would buy one in a second. You can bet the auto makers are watching and influencing any decisions by the Feds. 85 MPG sounds great to me being most of my commutes are just to town and back for essentials. That alone will be the biggest factor for buying one. This dip in gas prices will not last forever. Pretty soon any and I mean any excuse will do to raise them after we work through this glut. If they do go to production I cant wait to see what Gas Monkey will do to one to spiff it up.:happy34:

I would need a shoe horn to get my fat butt in that thing...:stickpoke:

I'm not so worried about the shoe horn needed to get my carcass in there as I am worried about the crane needed to get me back out.

It does look interesting and IF it ever comes out I might even get one.

They claim it will handle snow just fine because it is front wheel drive, but have they ever driven it in snow. I have had front wheel drive cars that were the worst thing ever in snow or even just wet roads.

I agree that it will need a provision for a trailer hitch.

The web page says they will be delivering 48,000+ units in 2016, but they have not yet started to hire the 1500 workers to do it.

They have a plant location. but that is an awful long way from a fully tooled plant. I can't help but to think that it aint gonna happen in 2016.

@ jeff. it may be front wheel drive , but remember the rear wheel is on the centerline , so you will be ploughing a furrow while traveling in 4 wheel car tracks .

the major prob with grip in snow and wet conditions is the low profile tyres we prefer, sure they grip better in the dry but a high profile does better in snow and wet conditions.

looking at the pictures of the plant ( my job is installation and modifications at nissan/infinity plant in washington uk ) the robot cells look almost complete, didnt see any pics of a paint shop. press shop, and trim shop looked empty of essential equipment .

not so worried about trim as its pretty easy to set up. its the presses and paint shop prep that takes time to set up. but by this time if its 2016 delivery they should be ironing out the bugs in the production process and thats what we dont see .

if this ever comes to the uk i expect it to cost twice the price as in usa. the cheapest can am spyder in usa is 15k usd , in uk its around 24k usd for the same can am spyder

Pretty cool really,, I like it!! Listening to the pitch in the Auto Show vid Mr. Elio mentions it being an attempt at helping with our North American oil consumption needs.. The engine vid show's it being a naturally aspirated, 3 cylinder, 2 valve head, throttle body injected motor - kinda thinking 84 mpg might be quite a stretch but THAT would be awesome if they could actually accomplish it.. Regardless,, gotta give em credit,, if they pull this off it will certainly add to our choice in motorcycling and THAT is ALWAYS a good thing!! Hope it all works out:fingers-crossed-emo

This reminds me of the car that Holman Moody built way back when. They were big into Nascar cars and engines back in the day. They installed a small diesel in a Mercury Capri (Mustang) and claimed it got 75 mpg. They tried to market it but by the time the EPA got through with them, they gave up on the idea.
