New Chat Room Installed

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page here or on any page, you will see a block now that shows who is in the chat room. It is VERY ugly at this point but I'll work on the colors and styling later. At least if it functional.

 

WOW ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ WOW WOW do I LOVE the sound of this one Bossman!! If I am reading this right, we will be able to see if anyone is in chat and who they are without having to actually go to chat? THAT is Venturiscally fantabulous if that is what your saying!!

so I scroll down right now and see an area where it says "User's Online",, no names appear but I do see what looks like a slight reflection of someone who probably could be considered a Block Head.. By the way Boss,, I also LOVE your choice of a name for your "Ghost" runner - I know a guy on here named Jeff that really needed you to do something like that,, sort of help him out a little while he is recovering from a recent surgery by picking up the slack on his inability to :stickpoke:with the zeal he used to have:cool10:

I've been working to see if I could get the chat room to pull in the users avatars from the forum but I don't think it is going to do that. So....any of you who had uploaded avatars to the forum will need to do so again. I'll try not to delete them this time.

That little box even shows my current Avatar in Chat.. Kinda almost thinking I like having two separate Av's Boss,,, one for chat and one for the main site here.. Sorta neat just like it is..

Be as modest as you want,, we all KNOW our Bossman is a Genius and we wouldnt trade him for all the tea in China!! Well,,, unless the tea came with free Hot Dogs,, now that may make it a difficult decision for some of our Michigan riders

Don,, just thinking out loud here, is there any way to have a running link with our Face Book page on the site here,,, not even sure how to put this into words,,, some form of a little box that would scroll conversations going on there.. Sort of a way to tie both sites together..

Yep,, your thinking is linked to the reason I inquired about it, was just thinking it would be pretty cool to just be able to follow along with people we havent heard from in a while.. Kind of a "catch all" of activity.. Our own "VR facebook ticker tape" as it were ...

I did sign up and got accepted at our facebook but found it kind of overwhelming if you will.. Do you remember making that post a while back about us not using the different areas on our site here? You made a comment in there about it appearing like we all just wanted a "watering hole" and about how horrible it would be if that was what VR became because of how easy it would be for things to get lost - not your exact words but I think I am close to it?

Those words became clear to me as I tried to follow thru our Facebook page,, real difficult to keep track of the who, what, where, whens and all that.. I do check in at Facebook once in a while and read lots of our members posts and that is fun to stay in contact that way but it is a fair amount of scrolling, maybe I just havent spent enough time learning to navigate our page there.. Just thought maybe a scrolling facebook thing here would help keep us together - in the spirit of fighting against dividing us as you mentioned above:think:....

So just an update on the chat room. I've pretty much done all I can with it. It works well I think from a computer. I have also tested it on the iPhone, iPad and it has been tested on an Android based tablet. I find that it works on all of them but not all functions work. The problem is that the sounds and some other features from the menu use Flash. iPhones, iPads and some Android based devices do not have Flash. That means that while you can chat with those devices, you will not be able to hear sounds or send sounds. Maybe not smilies either, not sure.

 

So, you should be able to chat on those devices but not all the features will work. Still the best I can come up with at this time. The only way to make a chat room work the same across all devices is to find an html based chat solution. I've looked and while there are some available, I haven't found any with all the little toys that most of you enjoy so much so for now, this is what we have.

 

I hope you enjoy it and I apologize that it is not perfect for everybody.
