XV1100SE Posted January 15, 2016 #1 Posted January 15, 2016 Sent the deposit to the breeder today and we should take delivery of the new addition to the family in April ! Due to be born mid February. And before anyone gets the wrong idea...we are getting a new Samoyed puppy ! We had a Samoyed before. After 14 years he developed a tumour in his abdomin and we had to put him down in 2006. In 2007 we got a Collie/Australian Shepherd mix but he passed away in June 2015 (from either cancer or poison - not sure which). It is time to get another dog. This isn't a picture of the dog we are getting but for those not familiar with Samoyeds.... Puppies : Adult Samoyed : Samoyeds "play well" with cats (of which we have FIVE ranging in age from 15 years to 2 years, multiple generations from the oldest one). Nancy has been going thru lists of names but at least we have about 13 weeks to pick a name. Don't know whether we'll get a female or male - that is chosen by the breeder although we said our first pick would be a female since our other dogs were both male, but will take a male if no females are available. So...this year will be lean for adding additional chrome to the bike (not that there is anything left to add). $2,500 for a pure bred Samoyed.
Flyinfool Posted January 15, 2016 #2 Posted January 15, 2016 Congratulations. My last two dogs were going to be my last dog ever. The dog I have now (English Springer Spaniel) again will be my last dog ever. But the dog I have now does have a bit of the devil in her. She hates cameras with a passion. If looks could kill, this is the closest pic I have ever seen to that look.
SilvrT Posted January 15, 2016 #3 Posted January 15, 2016 Beautiful dogs those Samoyed! We recently got a min-Poodle/Chihuahua cross. Was supposed to be 3/4 Poodle, 1/4 Chihuahua .... I think the breeder got that mixed up coz this pup definitely is mostly Chihuahua. It's non-stop action all day long!

Hummingbird Posted January 15, 2016 #5 Posted January 15, 2016 Congrats on the upcoming addition to your family - In 1994 we decided to get a puppy and made the mistake of walking into a pet store in Homosassa Fl. We walked out 1/2 hour later and with $29 less in my pocket with Chazz. Chazz was with us for 17 wonderful happy years. We were told that his mommy was a chow/lab mix and his daddy was a dachshund. It didn't matter to us because he took to us more (I think) than we did to him. Being self employed chazz was with me 24/7 and refused to let me leave without him in the back of the truck.
oldgoat Posted January 15, 2016 #7 Posted January 15, 2016 had one of them when my daughter was born in 1980 that dog was the best baby sitter we had. and loyal to the max. hated the neighbors cats. they would run by just out of reach of her chain when we tied her up for a little while out side. well them cats got a hard lesson she got strong enough to pull that stake out of the ground. they got one hell of a shock when she pined one to the ground. did not kill it but sure made it think again about coming into her area LOL good luck and I wish you many happy years with your fur child
Yammer Dan Posted January 16, 2016 #8 Posted January 16, 2016 Had a Samoyed when growing up. Very smart dog. Dad discovered that when I needed a little "upbringing" he had best lock "Sam" up first. And the dog would still get mad at him.
stickhandle2 Posted January 16, 2016 #9 Posted January 16, 2016 Very good news Don congrats. We had to put our Black Mouth Cur down at the tail end of November, he was my guy we had him for over 13 years and I miss him everyday, we still have our other dog an Australian Shephard mix and she has done better then we thought she would with out her buddy being around. Like others here when our dogs went Tammie and I agreed that we were not going to get another dog. So when I hear about folks getting a new four legged family member it brings a big smile to my face. Congrats on the new pup. Mike

saddlebum Posted January 17, 2016 #11 Posted January 17, 2016 Congrats on getting a new dog Don and Nancy. you will have to trade your tent trailer in foor a dog trailer.
bj66 Posted January 17, 2016 #12 Posted January 17, 2016 Sounds like fun is on the way! Our pudgy ball of white fur is just over 1 1/2 years old. He is an English Cream Golden Retriever. his parents weigh about 65 pounds, but Spaulding didn't inherit that from them. He weighs 96 pounds and s a complete blast. our previous dog Tippy passed at 17 years old, and Spaulding (named after Judge Smails's grandson in the movie Caddyshack) helped us get over the loss. ~
XV1100SE Posted March 26, 2016 Author #13 Posted March 26, 2016 Here's a pic of our puppy from the day we got him Feb 27th He has pretty much doubled in size in the four weeks we've had him. Good dog - well mannered, still getting used to the cats but fetches already, sits and stays on command. Smart dog. Crate training still ongoing - just have to get him to let us know when he wants to to out. He goes to the door but doesn't bark to let us know. Overnight he is vocal when he wants to go out....sometimes twice, sometimes four times in the middle of the night. A quiet moment from today :
XV1100SE Posted March 26, 2016 Author #14 Posted March 26, 2016 Going to have to get him a helmet and leather jacket. (sorry....won't rotate on the site)
bongobobny Posted March 27, 2016 #15 Posted March 27, 2016 They are VERY cute and intelligent dogs!! Enjoy!!
