Eck Posted December 13, 2015 #1 Posted December 13, 2015 Wife and I stopped at a thrift store yesterday and as I was walking around, I came upon (2) like new GL1800 foot rests with their mounting bracket and a Kury "chrome" rear brake arm. I paid $12 bucks for the two Foot rests and this included the (2) mounting brackets. Then I found a Kury Chrome rear brake arm, which I paid a whopping $4.00 (Sorry Sleeperhawk, I was wrong when I told you I paid $6 bucks for the Kury brake arm). I couldn't believe I found these parts in a thrift / salvation army store, and then, as I looked more, I also found a like new replacement rubber shifter boot for the GW shifter lever. It didnt have a price on it. When I checked out, the check out lady said I could just have it since it didn't have a price on it. SO then when I got home I decided to price these same parts using the Honda OEM parts list (except for the Kury rear brake arm). Foot rest mounting bracket = $15.44 ea x two brackets = $30.88 Rubber foot pads that mount to these above brackets (including springs) = $8.18 ea x 2 pads = $16.36 Shifter rubber boot = $2.95 Kury Brake arm = $72.98 Total would have cost me $126.22 I paid was $16.00 for everything...not a bad day for me!!! Thanks Santa!!!!!!!!!!!!

BlueSky Posted December 13, 2015 #4 Posted December 13, 2015 When I worked in FL and lived in the Crystal River area for a year around 2008, my wife and I spent a lot of time in thrift stores. In that area of FL there are thousands of retirees. And the way life goes, they were expiring rapidly leaving lots of goods that ended up in thrift stores. You could find some great stuff there. We left our home in NC vacant and bought lots of furnishings for cheap from those thrift stores for the rental home. Unfortunately, that nuke plant I worked at never restarted due to reactor containment building issues. Wasn't anything I did, I swear!

We left our home in NC vacant and bought lots of furnishings for cheap from those thrift stores for the rental home. Unfortunately, that nuke plant I worked at never restarted due to reactor containment building issues. Wasn't anything I did, I swear! Day after day Blue would report to work at the Nuke plant. Beside the locker he kept his containment suit in was a sign with a little red button in the middle of it - the sign above the button read "Authorized Persons Only". Being a normal member of VentureRider.org, the day came when Blue could no longer handle the pressure of wondering what on earth that little red button was for so he pushed the button and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjnm3V0xYjI
BlueSky Posted December 13, 2015 #6 Posted December 13, 2015 I have to follow up on this. Nuclear Power Plants in the USA can not blow up like a nuke bomb because of the way the fuel is manufactured. If they blow up it is because the steam pressure in the reactor gets too high and there is a steam explosion that blows contamination all over the place like Chernobyl. The fuel can get hot enough to melt, Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant and Chernobyl. The Russians were so arrogant. First they didn't build a 7' thick concrete and rebar containment building around the reactor with lots of quenching systems like all of the US plants. Then, they disconnected their automatic safety systems to run a special test. Then reactor power got away from them and there were no safety systems and no containment bldg. Arrogance extraordinary. Another factor was that their reactors were graphite moderated instead of water moderated. What this means is that in a US plant when the cooling water disappears or turns to steam the reactor reduces power. With graphite moderation, when the cooling water disappears, reactor power increases. A graphite moderated reactor would not get an operating license in the US.

Flyinfool Posted December 14, 2015 #17 Posted December 14, 2015 Yup, Pucs fault again @ragtop69gs = You would have known if it was mine, all my jackets have mustard and ketchup stains on em from eatin hot dogs on the fly - actually never owned a jacket like that - just !! So Eck,, did you win? The 7mm-08 is the same brass as the .308 (0.308 inch Dia.) just necked down for the 7mm (0.284 inch Dia.) bullet. When a rifle round is stuffed into a hand gun I would call that a magnum handgun, the 7mm-08 is not considered a magnum rifle round. This "handgun" will still have no problem dropping a deer at 200+ yards. At 300 yards it still has more bullet energy than a 44 magnum has at the muzzle. It is a BLAST to shoot.

One of the great things about being a half a bubble off, hi-jackin threads becomes a fairly easy crime to get excused for !! Necked down .308? Hokey spamoky = that would be a RIOT to shoot in a handgun:guitarist 2:!! Hey Fool,, is that '08 a wildcat load or purchasable over the counter? If it is a factory load, does your handgun handle "rifle" loads ok or do you feed it pistol ammo.. Back when I was hunting regularly I carried a Smith 29 .44 Mag - worked out GREAT for the type of brush hunting for Deer that I did. Always after a pretty little Thompson Contender down at the gun shop though. I liked the idea of up grading to rifle ballistics and Thomspon Center made a good looking piece chambered up in those rifle cartridges.. That handgun your selling is gorgeous piece of work too Fool,, I bet that puppy is also a great shooter!!

That handgun your selling is gorgeous piece of work too Fool,, I bet that puppy is also a great shooter!! I am sure this round started life a long time ago as a wildcat, many now common rounds started life as a wildcat, but it is now readily available over the counter. I do all of my own reloading not just to save cost, but also to optimize the load to the specific gun it is going into. The gun will shoot factory ammo just fine I have never heard of a "pistol Round" available in 7mm-08, although some of the reloading manuals do list handgun loads for it. The muzzle flash is quite impressive with factory ammo since they were expecting 26-30 inches of barrel to burn it in and not 14 inches of barrel. The muzzle brake also increases the perceived muzzle flash. But that is all part of the fun. A little history for your reading pleasure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7mm-08_Remington
Condor Posted December 14, 2015 #24 Posted December 14, 2015 Those are some interesting pistolas ya got there. Not my cup of tea, but interesting. Anyone wanting to see muzzle flash and dust roll try shooting a 264 win mag out of a twenty inch bbl. I'm more of a traditional collector or anything that catches my eye... Going up to Woodland tomorrow to pick up a Colt Trooper .357 ca. 1958 that I picked up 10 days ago, and two 22 rifles that I bought last Thursday. I can do Cash'n'Carry on the rifles because I have an FFL3 license, and they are both C&R's.. BTW one of the rifles is a 1957 Winchester 62A pump in like new condition if anyone knows about them... I do want to pick up a Garand someday. Have 3 dozen enblocs waiting in the wings.
Pegasus1300 Posted December 14, 2015 #25 Posted December 14, 2015 I once found a complete and running late 70's KZ1000 sitting in a thrift store. It was a bid item but I didn't bid enough.
