SpencerPJ Posted November 19, 2015 #1 Posted November 19, 2015 I'm considering upgrading my 83 to a more current model, say 07 or later. I like that my 83 trunk comes off, because I generally ride it locally as a cruiser. My question is: On second gens, do the trunks unlock and come off easily? Thanks
etcswjoe Posted November 19, 2015 #2 Posted November 19, 2015 You can take them off but they are bolted on so it takes about a little effort to remove them.
Larry1963 Posted November 20, 2015 #3 Posted November 20, 2015 Anyone have a picture with them off. Just wondering how it looks
vzuden Posted November 20, 2015 #4 Posted November 20, 2015 Larry, the Royal Star Tour Deluxe is basically a Venture without a trunk (or a fairing). A picture of a RSTD would show how it will look without the trunk, mounting bracket, and CB radio.
etcswjoe Posted November 20, 2015 #6 Posted November 20, 2015 Anyone have a picture with them off. Just wondering how it looks YOu can get a tour deluxe rear fender and get rid of the passenger seat altogether also. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=74099&d=1361197947
SpencerPJ Posted November 20, 2015 Author #7 Posted November 20, 2015 I like the RS with a fairing, and bags, and trunk for overnighters. I wish the trunk came off with lock and key, like my 83.

Would be nice I really liked that abut the 83 I had too. Here is a better pic with the trunk removed. http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx248/etcswjoe/Bike%20Rides/Rides%20A-Z/IMG_6144_zps2db1d121.jpg

Larry1963 Posted November 27, 2015 #11 Posted November 27, 2015 I know I am a little late getting back to this post. However I do like that look. But a couple of questions for you. 1. did you take the CB off. I see the antenna is still on the bike. I believe the CB is mounted on the bottom of bag. not that it is a really big deal for me just wondering. 2. Those antenna do not look like stock antennas. What are they for.

I mounted the CB at the rear of the fender with the intention of moving it into the saddle bag which can easily be done if you do not mind cutting a hole on the inside to run the cables through. I relocated the antennas using a license plate mount I fabricated (too cheap to buy one) the antennas are Firesticks, they work better than stock.
cowpuc Posted November 30, 2015 #13 Posted November 30, 2015 Would be nice, I really liked that about the 83 I had too. You notice any major difference in that "feel" by removing the trunk? Also, you given any thought to puttin together a "quick detach" for the tour pac like they do on the HD's? Heard of anyone having done that?
etcswjoe Posted November 30, 2015 #14 Posted November 30, 2015 It does feel much lighter without the trunk and I think you could make it where it would be comparable in time and effort to the Harley to remove with just a little redesign.
