I am under the understanding that the carb boots on the RSV have a steel lining so unless the crack is right at the ends it probabaly isnt a major concern

The cracks don't normally go all the way through but if you still have a concern, you can fix them for around $3 bucks.

You can purchase, and then apply small dabs of (black) silicone on your finger, then rub the carb boot with the silicone using your finger to push the silicone into the small cracks, thus filling them, and smoothing the surface of excess silicone. Let the boots set now for about 8 hours minimum (over night would do it).

Silicone can withstand the heat in that area and will last for years. Using black silicone will blend in and it wont be able to be quickly noticed without staring at the boots for a length of time.

There is an area in the rubber manifolds that can cause concern. Yes they are sleeved, but right at the top at the carb joint they can crack and suck air. The cracks aren't visible until the clamp is tightened. I went ahead and replaced those on the '99 just to be on the safe side and since I was in there already...
