I did my part trying to keep the population in check so Puc and everyone else has a safer trip to Sturgis this year.

One thing to keep in mind about hitting a deer with your car/truck. Visiting with my ins. agent, he told me when talking about my boys when they first started driving. It is better to just have them hit a deer than try to avoid it. A friends 15 year old tried to avoid one, got on the shoulder of road, lost control and rolled car. The kid was OK, but once he tried to avoid it and rolled, it became reckless driving. Insurance still took care of them, but the rates went up. If he would've just hit the deer, it is considered a no fault accident and his rates wouldn't have increased. At least that is the way it is here. Between my wife and I, we've hit at least 3, and my oldest has hit 1 over the years.

Wow BJ, THANKS a gazillion for all the prep work on the up coming Pie Butt 26.2 - its appreciated!! In your endeavors to make sure those roads are cleared for landing would you mind scouting and clearing the main road going North out of Newell for about 400 miles? We rode up that road for about 100 miles and had to turn back cause the pie was calling but plan on following it further in 2016 to see where it goes - it was just getting really really GORGEOUS when we turn around..

 Thinking I would be one to take the reckless driving ticket over getting hit by a deer if I have a choice - specially one of those great big Muley's like you guys got out there.. Rather pay a fine then be found in the obituary's :confused24:

Man, 400 miles or so north might get a little crowded. Guessing you might run into some oil drilling up there.......

Our deer are nothing to sneeze at! They get some awfull big bodies up here. They need it too to get through our winters.

I did hit one with my pickup one time. I was late for work and had to be clocked in by 6 a.m. it was January and wind chill was -20. I was going 85 mph and this buck (nicest I've ever gotten) crosses right on end of bridge. I had nowhere to go coming through the bridge, so I took him dead center of my truck. I thought this isn't so bad, then the hood came up over the windshield at probly 70 mph. I just looked out drivers side window and kept truck out of ditch until I could pull off road into a farmers driveway. The fan blades were bent right to the block of the engine. Anyway the highway patrolman came to fill out the report, but it was so cold he wasn't interested in getting out to see the truck. He asked how fast I was going and I said I wasn't looking at speedometer, I was looking at the deer. He filled out report and handed me the copy for insurance then got out to look at my truck. His exact words were " Holy Sh--, a deer did this?" I said "it was a big deer". I was lucky he was using a flashlight in dark, when the sun came up it was even worse looking. He knew I was hauling buns but never said anything else, so I got away with that one. Funny thing was, stuff like that happens in slow motion. At 80 plus miles per hour, I still had time to count the points on the rack. I never did find any parts of the rack afterward either. Must of just fragmented it was so cold.....

Couple years ago Tip and I rode "50" = "The Loneliest Highway In America" as part of our annual 2 month motorcycle westerly migration. Tip had made it a point during our 35 year married life that she wanted me to show her some Elk in the wilds and I had been reminded of this again on this trip.. We left Salina Utah heading west on 50. Started getting later in the day as we approached "Connor Pass" (GORGEOUS). Hadnt seen a car or another bike for a LONG time, just crested the pass and 3 GORGEOUS cow Elks ran right across in front of us - within 20 feet!! Slowed way down talking about the fact that Tip had FINALLY gotten to see some Elk, maybe doing 20 mph and there went 2 more.. Tippy was like :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool: :thumbsup2::thumbsup2::thumbsup2: I FINALLY GETTING TO SEE SOME ELK!! Seeing the size of them and how populated that area was, I was now slowed down to a crawl as we rounded the last bend on the downhill of the crest.. Right there on the side of the road stood a HUGE BULL ELK WITH A HUGE BULL ELK RACK :Bunny2: just standing there at a slight angle to us.. Was doing no more than 5 mph per hour, I could see our reflection in his eyeball as we went around him.. Got almost around him (I was riding the center line - he was on the shoulder THANKFULLY) and he charged us!!!!!!!!! I nailed the throttle and he came within millimeters of Tips right leg - she literally could have reach down and touched his nose!!! :scared:Thing was MASSIVE!

I went about 1/4 mile, road off road into a little valley to set up camp - Tip asked what I was doing,, I said I aint riding no farther till I know the killer Elk they have in this area are all done with their evening attacks !!!

reminds me of all those guys taking pictures of the buffalo in Custer State Park. Don't those yahoos realize that those are massive wild animals. Glad you used some due diligence and gave that bad boy some room. My in laws raise elk, and they are nothing to mess with!

Puc, this is mine from this year. Imagine them horns tied to your mirrors instead of them antelope horns.

WOW ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ WOW WOW WOW BROTHER :178:,,, that sucker looks like he is of the buckerO'-steroideeO' breed!!! :guitarist 2::guitarist 2::thumbsup:

OUTSTANDING job on the hunt my man and CONGRATS!!!:clap2::clap2:

Thinking that there rack may need just a little more support then Tweeks mirrors could muster, all though I do LOVE they way you think BJ,,,:scratchchin:,, maybe put a set of wheels on em and use em for that trailer everyone keeps saying I need :big-grin-emoticon:.. PLUS,, I could wrap a few of those massive tines in tin foil and have an antenna setup that is second to none!!!

:lightbulb:They certainly would add a certain ominous "one of a kind look" to someones Roadglide too though! This would make it easier for us out of state Pie Butt 26.2 riders to identify our host if his gorgeous Harley showed up for pie n ice cream supporting a set of those puppies :big-grin-emoticon:

Jeez it looks like I better lay off the pie and ice cream for about 20 years! Either that or your camera adds a couple hundred pounds.......who am I kidding, its easier to just buy bigger clothes.....

Hey I just noticed the bike on the trailer in the background. And it wasn't even mine!!!!.......remember I was closest one from Sturgis, and I trailered :). For those of you who weren't there, I trailer so my wife will come out for a long weekend and stay. She doesn't ride with me unfortunately.....

Yea it's my camera,,, it because I take my pics on a lower pixel setting (get to take a LOT more pics that way) and the lower the pixel setting the bigger the pixel and the bigger the pixel the more it expands whatever I take a pic of. Dont feel to bad Bern, it also has a habit of giving me a bald spot on my forehead.. Lets not let that stupid little 20 dollar camera keep us from enjoying some pie at the 2016 Pie Butt Ride brother!!!:big-grin-emoticon::thumbsup:

I'll remember that. Next time I discuss a diet with the missus I'm going to tell her I need to lose a couple of pixels.......

Actually, you want to gain some pixels not lose em,, its loosing the pixels that causes things to expand.
