alwrmcusn Posted November 12, 2015 #1 Posted November 12, 2015 Yesterday during the Veterans Day parade I noticed my right turn signal was not working. How do you remove the bulb from the front turn signal? I have removed the clear lens and tried to twist the bulb, I also tried to simply pull it and it doesn't budge. I removed the tiny little metal piece that straddles the rubber housing and tried again. Still no luck. I don't want to break the glass off and leave the base. What do I need to do to remove the bulb? 2009 RSV triked.
Du-Rron Posted November 12, 2015 #2 Posted November 12, 2015 push in while you twist counterclockwise.
alwrmcusn Posted November 12, 2015 Author #3 Posted November 12, 2015 Thanks Du-Ron, I just figured that out myself. Noted that you have to push hard enough to fear busting the bulb and having the shattered bits embed themselves in your fingers! (smile)
alwrmcusn Posted November 12, 2015 Author #4 Posted November 12, 2015 I replaced the bulb (it did have a filament break). However that did not fix the turn signal problem. The four way flasher works, the "running" lights work, the left turn signal works. The right turn signal still does not work, front or back. Anyone have any suggestions/things to look for or check?
Dale124 Posted November 12, 2015 #5 Posted November 12, 2015 Sounds like perhaps the switch itself is the culprit. Dale
alwrmcusn Posted November 13, 2015 Author #6 Posted November 13, 2015 That is my thinking also. Really need to get it sorted out. I really dread opening that switch housing up to check it though.
alwrmcusn Posted November 13, 2015 Author #7 Posted November 13, 2015 Is that a relay or whatever for the turn signals like in a car? Might that be the problem? I checked the service manual and it shows a flasher relay.
alwrmcusn Posted November 17, 2015 Author #9 Posted November 17, 2015 Check the grounds. I am not versed in bike wiring harnesses, where would I check that? Specifics would be helpful for me. Thanks
alwrmcusn Posted November 23, 2015 Author #10 Posted November 23, 2015 I guess no one knows where to check ground? What to look for? etc.??
Karaboo Posted November 24, 2015 #11 Posted November 24, 2015 I don't know where the grounds are on a 2nd gen, but I would start by following the wires. The ground points always collect more corrosion.
mm482 Posted November 25, 2015 #12 Posted November 25, 2015 If they work on 4 ways, then the grounds are good.

All the lights work on 4-way and the running lights work. That eliminates the grounds and bad bulbs. The relay is working or your 4-way wouldn't flash. The right side turn signal FRONT and BACK are not working. The only thing left is the switch.

alwrmcusn Posted November 26, 2015 Author #15 Posted November 26, 2015 I'm gonna take my nerves to the next level, and try to open up that switch housing and take a look. Wish me luck! I'm guessing there are 40 miles of wires and contacts in that housing!
alwrmcusn Posted November 26, 2015 Author #16 Posted November 26, 2015 Pulled the housing apart, nothing that I can see broken but its sort of a non-user repairable unit. I guess its dealer bound!
Larry1963 Posted November 27, 2015 #17 Posted November 27, 2015 Just make left hand turns only if you live in the South do not worry about it, nobody uses blinkers anyway LOL
alwrmcusn Posted November 27, 2015 Author #18 Posted November 27, 2015 Hey Larry.....I do live in the south and you're aiming right at the bullseye (smile). I was riding up a four lane road from Spring City to home in Rockwood, TN just a few days ago. An Ideal Plumbing Company truck was behind me for about 7 or 8 miles. I was in the right lane and he was in the left. We stayed that way for that 7 miles or so. When I got to my turn (to the right of course!) as I made the turn I hear this loud horn blast. The plumbing truck had taken that opportunity to switch lanes and of course....no right turn signal from me.
Larry1963 Posted November 27, 2015 #19 Posted November 27, 2015 Before you take it apart, go to your local auto parts store get a bottle of contact cleaner with a nozzle on it, stick it in there and spray, then while spraying move the switch back and forth. see if that helps
