Thanks for being there for all of us!! Without you, the Freedom's we enjoy everyday would have never been in existence!!!

I've never been in the service, but Dad was in Europe in WWII and my older brother was in the thick of it in Vietnam. Everyone says it changed him. As I type I'm feeling a bit emotional, feeling thanks to the powers that be that they both came back in one piece.

God bless our vets, and our serving servicemen / women.

Wow! It's been 45 years since I got out of the US Army! I'm an old fart for sure!

Wow Rooster, a HUGE THANK YOU for your service and that very thought has crossed my mind many times over. Some things in life just make no sense at all:confused24:!

In the end though, it sure makes me thankful and proud of each of you Vets for placing the value of freedom far above the value of almighty:mo money:

Hope this is not taken the wrong way but I do not agree with the phrase HAPPY VETERANS DAY - It would have been better if there never had to be veterans or a veterans day. HONORABLE VETERANS DAY yes for without their sacrifice we would not have the freedoms we enjoy today and my sincere thanks goes to those who in the past present and future serve to protect our beliefs and freedoms. My Mother and Father lived through WWII. My mother helping to smuggle downed allied pilots out of Germany occupied Holland, and my father fighting with the dutch under ground as a teenage boy as well as having escaped three times from a German prisons including a local jail that my uncle broke him out of. BTW his escape from German prisons were often with the help of German people who did not believe in Hitler. He again went to war in 1949 with the Dutch Marines to fight the Japanese in Indonesia, were he led a demolition team that would go behind enemy lines in the middle of the night to take out artillery ahead of the main attack. I saw and lived with the toll it took on him and can only imagine the pain of watching a comrade in arms fall as you marched on to continue the fight. Hopefully a day may come when love of humanity replaces the need for war. In my fathers words "war is when you are shooting at some one who you don't even know, who under different circumstances could have been a friend" and all because political/financial greed, lawless bullies or religious extremists, who believe more in their cause or personal interest than they do in humanity as a whole.

I like that HONORABLE VETERANS DAY, I will remember that next year. we had a speaker come to my work place and address all us veterans, he said when ever someone would thank him for his service he didn't know quit how to respond until another vet told him just respond with, it was my honor and privilege and yes thanks to all my brothers and sisters.

Absolutely, positively NO offense taken @saddlebum, matter of fact brother - its courage like you displayed in stating what you did (and done so PERFECTLY I might add) that helps bring change, constructive growth and helps pay the kind of Patriotic respect that those who deserve it have earned. Take notice that I did correct my miss-stated title in the thread and it now reads "Honorable Veterans Day" cause I like that too!!
