Great White Posted November 3, 2015 #2 Posted November 3, 2015 Just ignore it. Sometimes people data mine Craig's list/Kijiji for email addresses to sell. They send you an email, you reply and then they get your real email in the reply and you start getting spam shortly after.....

tlm Posted November 3, 2015 #4 Posted November 3, 2015 That's why I set up a yahoo email just for buying and selling on CL. I check it every couple of day's and empty all the spam.
BlueSky Posted November 3, 2015 #5 Posted November 3, 2015 (edited) I got a similar text recently about an item I had for sale. The text message said he would send a check and when I deposited it in my bank and it cleared in a couple of days, his representative would come pick up the item. I texted back asking what bank was the check written on. The response was a bank that had a branch at my location, so I responded that I would cash it at his bank and his rep could pick it up. Didn't hear back for a couple days then he responded saying the same thing again. I didn't respond again. It was an obvious scam. Sooo many scams on craigslist. Edited November 4, 2015 by BlueSky
Flyinfool Posted November 4, 2015 #6 Posted November 4, 2015 I have surprisingly had good luck putting an anti scam note in my CL adds right with my contact info which is done to be human readable. Scammers DON'T bother, I know all your tricks.
cowpuc Posted November 4, 2015 #7 Posted November 4, 2015 Something I have done that seems to help me a lot with the scammers on both Ebay and Craigslist is that if I get suspicious notes like the one that Eck got is I respond with my neighbors and friends Email addresses, I never ever give them my own. I know its kind of a crazy thing to do because some of those iffy responses include things like "you have won 120 trillion dollars" or "respond now and we will send you a lifetime of free flight tickets usable world wide" or "this brand new Harley or Indian is yours today just for responding to this urgent message" and that someday one of my buddies is going to be a very wealthy lop eared varmint but, what da heck, I am just a very nice guy who would love to see my buddies get what they deserve. Not only that but with a scoot like Tweeks, who needs a new Harley or an Indian anyway..
Condor Posted November 4, 2015 #8 Posted November 4, 2015 I don't understand why everyone doesn't use the CL communication setup when posting a FS: There is absolutely no way a responder can get your email address from a response unless you give it to them.
Flyinfool Posted November 4, 2015 #9 Posted November 4, 2015 It is when you answer that CL communication that they get your email addy. A local buddy of mine was on CL for the first time and was selling a bike, he being older, very trusting and a bit naive of the modern times put his home addy in the add. He had a pile of "cashiers checks overnighted to him, most were for more that the purchase amount with the request that he deposit them, keep $X for his trouble, and then Western Union the excess money to the sender........... Fortunately we got hold of him before he started to send money out. He only asked because he did not know how to handle multiple paid offers on the bike. Had he only got one scam offer, he would have become a victim. I REALLY HATE SCAMMERS, AND CROOKS! There are to many that have scored or nearly scored with very close family.
cowpuc Posted November 4, 2015 #10 Posted November 4, 2015 Yep,, I am with ya Fool, some day - some where - some how somebody is going to invent a scam reversal computer method for :smash2: and :mugshot:ing those nasty rascal's but until then all we have is each other's and our own savvyness to learn how to work around em. Thanks for watching out for your friend Jeff!!
Condor Posted November 5, 2015 #11 Posted November 5, 2015 It is when you answer that CL communication that they get your email addy. Not so... Your reply will go back thru CL and be coded when they get your reply... And this can go on forever. The only way they can get your email is if you have your email address in an auto sigline and forget to delete it before hitting send....
Flyinfool Posted November 5, 2015 #12 Posted November 5, 2015 I see that this is an option now. Last time I sold on CL the two way email was not an option. This IS better.

Best Regards Eck, my man, that is as old of a scam as the hills. I can't believe they still try that nonsense. I haven't forgotten those pics. Each time I try to send it comes up too big. I might just mail you a thumb drive and ship back when done on your end...
