Droneh8tr Posted October 13, 2015 #1 Posted October 13, 2015 83 VR Im in Indianapolis and ive lost the inner cable of my speedometer. What can i do to fix this? Ive read something about a NAPA part, but i dont know that it was for my bike. It was lost on the highway... im NOT going out there to look for it. Any input appreciated..
Max Posted October 13, 2015 #2 Posted October 13, 2015 I can't help you with that cable, but a quick road fix suggestion till you return home, buy a cheap GPS with suction cup and disc mount. They all have real time speed and trip meters to track your mileage.
VerntureVet Posted October 13, 2015 #3 Posted October 13, 2015 GPS APP on phone and tape it to your tank or someplace you can see it. I ran for months on an Android app called GPSSPEEDO with my tablet taped to the right side panel ;-)
Droneh8tr Posted October 13, 2015 Author #4 Posted October 13, 2015 104 to both of you.. im already using a GPS so i can get my speed, but im pissed my mileage isnt going up. Anyone else have an idea... i just need the inner cable.
videoarizona Posted October 13, 2015 #5 Posted October 13, 2015 Got to be some dealers located nearby that would have the part. OR...order it and have it shipped to a destination down the road. If anyone has a spare they can measure...maybe that would help.
GaryZ Posted October 14, 2015 #6 Posted October 14, 2015 (edited) Go to any auto parts store and buy a universal speedo cable. It has the same square ends as the stock cable. Cut it to length and glue the end on. Done! Gary Edited October 14, 2015 by GaryZ

cimmer Posted October 15, 2015 #9 Posted October 15, 2015 I just check and Partshark is showing a speedometer cable still available. 1 Speedometer Cable Ass''y 26H-83550-01-00 $19.36 Hope this helps.
utadventure Posted October 15, 2015 #10 Posted October 15, 2015 Extra work, but reverse the speedo casing so that if it comes undone again, you don't lose the cable.
Karaboo Posted October 15, 2015 #11 Posted October 15, 2015 I got mine at a local Yamaha dealer. It is not discontinued. They used that cable on a lot of bikes.
