Great White Posted October 10, 2015 #1 Posted October 10, 2015 Anyone know if an 86 swingarm will bolt up to an 83 frame? I'm looking at adding a brace to the swingarm and would rather try it on my spare 86 arm than the original 83 arm....
Prairiehammer Posted October 11, 2015 #2 Posted October 11, 2015 Anyone know if an 86 swingarm will bolt up to an 83 frame? I'm looking at adding a brace to the swingarm and would rather try it on my spare 86 arm than the original 83 arm.... The 1986 swingarm will bolt up to the 1983 frame however, the '83 rear brake caliper bracket probably will not fit the '86 swingarm (different mount styles). The 1986 driveshaft is longer/shorter than the 1983 driveshaft; that indicates that the swingarm lengths are different as well. (Make sure you get the driveshaft for the V-Max final drive that you want to put on the 1983, 'cause the 1983 driveshaft won't work). After some deliberation and retrospective, I can't recall ever seeing a MKII/V-Max/Second Gen final drive on a MKI.
Great White Posted October 11, 2015 Author #3 Posted October 11, 2015 Gary's (dingy) Venture/VMax is a 1983 iirc and it has a VMax drive. Don't know if he has the oem swingarm or not though. I made sure I got the driveshaft with the diff when I bought it.
Venturous Randy Posted October 11, 2015 #4 Posted October 11, 2015 After some deliberation and retrospective, I can't recall ever seeing a MKII/V-Max/Second Gen final drive on a MKI. I also have a V-Max final drive on my 83. The driveshaft on the MKII, V-Max and 2nd gen will only work with these final drives because the driveshaft has a seal that goes into the final drive coupling that the MKI does not have. Randy
