lpshort Posted October 7, 2015 #1 Posted October 7, 2015 Replaced the rear tire on my 2011 RSV S. Took out the driveshaft and lubed it. Also lubed the pins and needle bearings. Put it all back together again. The rear wheel will turn with the tire off the ground but on the ground I just get a noise and no power to the wheel when I let the clutch out. Took the back tire off again and left the drive shaft in. Again am getting a noise and I can see the splines turning. What did I do wrong?? I figure it must be in the driveshaft. The driveshaft looks fine. Supposed to leave for the Outer Banks NC Saturday. What could be the problem?? I am new here so greatly appreciate any help. Len
Freebird Posted October 7, 2015 #2 Posted October 7, 2015 You have most likely missed the yoke when putting the driveshaft back in. The u-joint will drop down and it is possible to insert the drive shaft and miss the yoke. I've been there and done that.
Flyinfool Posted October 7, 2015 #3 Posted October 7, 2015 Pretty common. When you put the drive shaft back in you missed the front spline. If you lift the bike, put it in gear and if you can turn the rear wheel, that confirms it.
lpshort Posted October 7, 2015 Author #5 Posted October 7, 2015 Ok thanks that is the problem, now if I can only get the shaft in the u joint.
bikenut Posted October 7, 2015 #6 Posted October 7, 2015 there is a small rubber plug on top of the swing arm after you remove you side cover ,you can remove to hold the u joint up with a screw driver to get the drive shaft lined up with it , we have all done that . good luck
