The fun is over.......

WAAAYYYY back in April the city tore out the street in front of my house. Tore it out down to dirt.

It has made for an interesting summer to say the least.

I could wash my truck and within an hour I would be hearing the comments "Don't you EVER wash that thing?". Everything around here is covered in dirt.

Drivers have been some of the most entertaining. It is just amazing how many people will get out of their car, MOVE the road closed barricade, then drive off of a foot high edge of pavement and be confused as to why their car is now high centered and wont move. But even more fun are those that had enough speed to actually make it past the high center part and now are trying to get out of the hole. They usually get up to ramming speed and hit that 12 inch high concrete road edge to try to bounce their way out. Lots of assorted mangled car parts laying around.

The very best one was a biker, shot between the barricades, off the edge and into a deep mud pool. The bike stopped instantly and the rider kept going right over the bars and did a perfect face plant into the mud with a good 30 foot slide. I assume he was not hurt bad cuz he jumped up and the whole neighborhood learned a new vocabulary.

It took him and his buddies a good hour the the bike out of the mud, it ended up being a 4x4 truck and a chain that got it unstuck and up the pavement edge.

But today they finally laid the first layer of the new asphalt, so now there is just a 2 inch bump, any car can get over that.

Yea,, what da heck,,, sounds like another story I heard from the same story teller about a snow man visiting Don's MD - he didnt have any pictures to prove that one either

Hey Jeff, should have had a Meet n Greet over there during the dirt road season.. This bunch LOVES to sit watch people do crazy stuff and you probably could have gotten one of them to do a Utube program for you brother!! Just set up a grill to cook hot dogs on, mix up some lemonade, toss in some Wisconsin cheese and crackers and you coulda had the bestest M n G EVER!! :lightbulb:Better yet,, open a 2 year old tub of Rum Balls and just the smell of em would have had most of these lop eared varmints being stars on Utube as they jumped that 2' berm on 800 pound touring bikes!! :moped:

Mud makes me think of the day I got my Honda cb160 brand new. In the day there was a motorcycle hill just off hwy 39 in La Mirada in Southern California. All the bad bikers would do hill climbs and it was a lot of fun. I in my wisdom went way back in the hills to try my stuff. I found a few guys jumping the berm on the side of the dirt road and I figured I could do that. Not wanting to interfere with their fun, I went down the road a ways where the berm was a little higher. I went off the road a little ways and turned around to start my roll. Going about 20 to 25 mph I hit the berm and went airborne. Alas, I had neglected to check the other side of the berm.As I got my air time all I could see was water. It was only about 2 inches deep but the mud under it was like fine grease. My brand new cb 160 went every which way. No injuries, no damage. When i got it out I rode straight home. That was the last of my hill climbs.

THANKS for story Howard! Brought back some great memories of yesteryear!

Fortunately you had the CB,, those low pipes probably help keep her upright.. I had an early RD350 Yam that I actually trail road for a while - even put a set of knobs on it.. Got a lot of looks and laughs from my buddy's cause they were riding "real" dirtbikes.. They laughed till we hit sand or mud and those low pipes acted like ski's while that little 350 tossed mud in the faces:big-grin-emoticon:
