Although @Chaplain Dusty grabbed himself a decent bike from Approval Powersports and suffered the consequences of the $300 document fee, I have previously warned all here to make sure you are not getting the shaft from them. This is a perfect example of what I was talking about:

http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/mcd/5242705507.html

It seems they are still trying to sell his bike, AGAIN. This a NEW Craigslist post from 9-28-15. The catch is they wont tell you the bike is gone and then when you get there, they'll try to up-sell you something else.

Just a heads up for all here.

Well what do you expect from a craigslist ad? Pretty much the only thing that service is good for is getting ripped off or for finding prostitutes. Did you call them and ask why they are re-running the ad? Have you flagged the posting? If I were to buy a bike off of an online listing, it would and has been Ebay. They monitor those ads and sellers pretty good. I had an issue awhile back, it was taken care of no problem. Stay away from craigslist and harbor freight and life will be good.

Owners of the shop probably took their marketing classes at the same place the folks at places like ABC Warehouse,, the old "sorry, we are out of that model but...." :big-grin-emoticon:

Hmmm,, I wonder if a person could use that same scam for a Meet n Greet,,, M n G sales ad reads - free Hot Dogs - Pop - Chips and all the trimmings.. Then folks from all over North America show up only to find the scammer has nothing of the sort - tricked em all into showing up just to take advantage of a chance to get to meet some new friends, maybe get some pictures and a few half baked video's

Seriously though Stan,, THANK YOU for the heads up about Approval - between their sneakiness with our friend Dusty and now this little ploy I too would suggest steering clear of those rascal's.. Lots of good dealerships here in Michigan and a few bad ones - thanks for doing your part to help us sort em out brother - you da man Stan :happy65::happy34:

I have bought and sold several items on Craigslist and never had any problems. I only look at ads from individual sellers only. In fact, that is how I found this site. I bought my Yamaha from a local guy.

Yep, I've had good and bad experiences on both Ebay and Craigslist and the potential problems are exponentially greater the more distance you have to travel to get the goods.

I've traveled hundreds of miles just to get that "I can't believe I fell for this" sick feeling of stupidity.

If it ain't close I ain't goin'.

It seems everyone's got a wide range of opinion of the term "excellent condition". lol

I bought my VR from a craigslist ad. The owner is a nice guy who has his own boat service business and is an avid biker when he has time.

I have seen many scams on craigs though. People who advertise something that looks really nice for half what it is worth. Of course they don't have it and it is always located a thousand or so miles away. Just send the money and they will have it shipped to you. One lady when I told her I wanted to see the truck advertised locally but was located in FL that I was going to Fl and i wanted to stop and see it said the truck was already "boxed up ready to ship and I couldn't see it".

One of the GREAT things I LOVE about our site is that each one of us now have the scamming world kinda by the toes if you will.. What @stanG has done here is exactly why I say that. Also his stopping and prechecking the scoot out for Dusty BEFORE the Chaplin found himself faced with that sick feeling of facing a machine that was totally misrepresented..

Personally, I think we are fools (go back to sleep @Flyinfool - your radar picked up the wrong message = wasnt talking about you behind your back = this time :rotfl:) if we are seriously headed down that familiar road of purchasing something in another demographic area and dont at least post it up and see if some innocent bystander VR member varmint () who might live near said scoot and give em chance to get a quick peek.. Scammers of all types usually will run and hide if you can say - I live right down the road - be right there:cool10:

The power of "got chur back brother" trumpts them scammers con jobs almost everytime:witch_brew:

Once again Stan is the man! :wow:Thanks my brother for pointing out the truth on Approval. :You_Rock_Emoticon: I would not have considered any part of traveling that far without my VR brothers input. Yes, they had me on the $300.00. :rippedhand: I told them that they would get a lot of publicity out of this. They still stuck to their conniving ways. And they are getting publicity out of this, just not the kind that they would enjoy, but that is how they have chosen to deal with people. At any rate, the good Lord did protect me in a tight situation and by His grace, He gave me a sweet motorcycle and kept me safe over a lot of miles. :sign outstanding:Sorry that I missed you Stan. Had you gone down the street to the station, you probably would have caught me filling the tank. I'm under the understanding that I had just left when you showed up. Maybe next time. The icing on the cake was me being able to pray for my brother Puc in N. Muskegon and heading over to see my granddaughter in Pittsburg, Pa. which I had not seen since she had been born. :sign isnt that specBut, thanks again for your time and effort in checking out the situation and even tracking down the previous owner. :thumbsup2: Bless you my brother!

Craigs list and Ebay are just as good or just as bad as the buyer will allow.

I have been buying and selling on both for many years and the ONLY problem I have ever had is because of my OWN neglect. You can't blame a seller for trying to rip you off, it's your responsibility to recognize a thief. I can't remember any ads proudly announcing that they had every intention of ripping you off.

I refuse to deal with a dealer that uses Craigs List, however, individuals can be screened and qualified with a phone call. If the seller refuses to list a phone number, that vendor will not be selling anything to me.

Ebay is somewhat different in that they have a GREAT program that protects the buyer as well as the seller.

PayPal is another tool you as a buyer can use to help protect yourself, it has saved me on several occasions with the highest dollar amount in a single transaction being $989.

The point is, if someone gets in trouble with either craigs list or ebay it might just be because you didn't due your homework.

Give me a couple minutes to get my flame suit on then blast away

Not all apples in the bushel are bad. My Venture was a long distance Ebay purchase. The bike was everything the seller stated and more. He picked me up at the airport and an hour later I was on my way home. A 1200 mile test ride.

The 08' RSV Hannigan trike we bought for almost 10K below market was a craigslist ad, it was 12 hours south of us and with the help of a few folks here, we were able to get an awesome trike at a great price.

As with any purchase, it's BUYER BEWARE and DUE DILIGENCE

Not all ad's that seem to be too good to be true , are,,, :big-grin-emoticon:
