turtle Posted September 29, 2015 #1 Posted September 29, 2015 The wife and I are taking a vacation to Pigeon Forge TN. we will be leaving Iowa City IA area on Saturday am . We will be driving down thought of taking the bike on trailer but due to health problems at this time not an option. Not familiar with the area was looking for suggestions on sites to see. Not interested in tourist trap things maybe a nice road to drive for future rides . We will be staying at a house with family but could meet with someone for lunch one day to expand the great group of friends since joining the site.
Eck Posted September 29, 2015 #2 Posted September 29, 2015 Tom, Here is a nice route to spend about 2.5 hours on if you want. Take Hwy 449 north out of P-forge to Hwy 411 then take Hwy 416 south (curvy road) to Hwy 321 east to TN route 32 (this is a VERY, very curvy road )- Note: it will turn into a gravel road for about 1/2 a mile and as soon as you pass the water plant (on right), you are back on a paved road again where you will get on I-40 north to exit #443 / Hwy 339 west to Sevierville where you can pick up the parkway south back to P- Forge. https://goo.gl/maps/KAuzecDvsZH2 Another (2 hr -non stopping) beautiful ride would be: Hwy 431 south and then taking the "Gatlinburg by-pass" to Fighting Creek Gap Road (west) to Little River Gorge Rd (west) to Route 73 to the town of Townsend where you pick up Hwy 321 (east) back to P-Forge. https://goo.gl/maps/gTRGgJ7pgw32 Now if you want to check out the "Tail of the Dragon" that everyone talks about and see a couple other nice roads/ places along the way, you can take this route which will be about a 4.5 hr ride. Im not going to spell it out like I did above..Hopefully the link works for you. https://goo.gl/maps/jUTL1L9fT9o
BigLenny Posted September 29, 2015 #3 Posted September 29, 2015 Turtle, Eck had great suggestions. Also, the Blue Ridge Parkway is an awesome drive. I wouldn't call it a tourist trap. It's simply one of the greatest driving roads in the country. If take the BRP over to Asheville, make sure you grab a bite at the Tupelo Honey Cafe. Oh, and here is a must in my opinion: Go to Asheville and take a tour of the Biltmore Estate/House. OMG! You won't regret it. If you do, go ahead and spend the extra money and get the headets for the guided tour.
eusa1 Posted September 29, 2015 #4 Posted September 29, 2015 Eck will never lead you astray tommy, he is well traveled down there. he should jump on that wing and meet you and kat for a dinner stop!

Daveand Barbie Posted September 30, 2015 #6 Posted September 30, 2015 And.....add Natural Bridge to any stop at The Gorge. It's just across the road and would make for a great hike.
djh3 Posted September 30, 2015 #7 Posted September 30, 2015 Biltmore in Ashville is good spot. Also Wheels through time in maggie valley is a cool place to spend some time.
