VerntureVet Posted September 28, 2015 #1 Posted September 28, 2015 Ok so In my quest to de-cowling my Venture Royale I bought aftermarket gauges to mount on the tree and handles. Well come to find out the stock speedo has what looks like a reed on it connected to the Venture Cruise I assume for speed monitoring. Is there a way to put on an after market Speedo and still keep my Venture Cruise? The on I picked up is not cable driven rather it has a magnet that goes in the brake rotor and a pick up on the fork. Anyone ever convert to digital speedo and keep the Venture Cruise?
Great White Posted September 28, 2015 #2 Posted September 28, 2015 It does indeed have a reed switch. It how the bike senses it's speed for cruise and cancelling turn signals (although turn cancel also functions off time). If you want to keep the cruise, you need to find a way to give the cruise the reed switch signal. either actually a signal or simulated. You're outside my areas of expertise on that....
Flyinfool Posted September 29, 2015 #3 Posted September 29, 2015 You need to figure out the gear ratio of the speedo cable drive off the front wheel. Then set up something to trip a reed switch at the same speed as the speedo cable. This signal will work the tune signal canceling and the cruise. Or you could even make up something that will work off of the speedo cable.
VerntureVet Posted October 25, 2015 Author #4 Posted October 25, 2015 Just FYI I had to install a magnet in my brake rotor with a reed pickup for the speedo so I put on a 2nd reed for the cruise. It didn't like the 1:1 feedback so I had to make a little 2:1 logic so the cruise controller didn't have fits.
