Freebird Posted September 28, 2015 #26 Posted September 28, 2015 It is not really unusual for there to be network problems that affect some and not others. It could be anywhere between your computer and where our site is hosted. That's why it may affect some and not others. I'm not saying that is the issue, I have no idea. If it IS the issue though, it can be hard to find and is really up to the various providers to isolate the problem. About the only thing you can do to determine if that is the case is to "ping" VentureRdier.org and it should show you where in the route that things are getting slowed down.
Prairiehammer Posted September 28, 2015 #27 Posted September 28, 2015 I've been gone for a few days (Leaf Looker) and just tried to get on for the first time this morning and YEAH, @cowpuc it took about 90 seconds for the home page to come up and another 2 minutes of "spinning wheel" before this thread came up. I am also running Windows 7 and Firefox (v.41.0). The only site that I have had issues with is Venturerider.org. Even before this extraordinarily long wait this morning, I've noticed a decidedly slow loading on VRO lately. I've had to refresh fairly often to get to another thread.

Prairiehammer Posted September 28, 2015 #30 Posted September 28, 2015 WOW! 2344ms to load? Ping= 36.8ms? THAT seems really slow. mirider Posted September 28, 2015 #31 Posted September 28, 2015 Absolutely NO problems with site on this end......Windows 10 / Chrome / Dell laptop
Eck Posted September 28, 2015 #32 Posted September 28, 2015 Hey Puc, Try Ctrl + Alt + S .......to spank it for acting up... Give thought to where you do the pointing and outsource the clicking.. Maybe your spell check is suffering from exhaustion... Maybe the electricity is slow going to your computer.. Maybe your computer is feeling a little nauseous by having too much spam and cookies You need to find the same program that God uses to upload the Sun every morning... Hope this helps brighten your day.. On another helpful note: You could try resetting your computer to a point back in time where it did work great..
cowpuc Posted September 28, 2015 Author #33 Posted September 28, 2015 Been trying again all morning, was only able to get onto this thread by clicking on the link in an email that came because Kev responded to this thread (clicked on the link and it loaded). I have another tab open that has been trying to log in for 15 minutes - little swirly is still spinning but nothing happening. The little swirly is also still spinning on this page while I am typing this note so no idea if be readable. Gonna try those sites that Jack posted, also - what is this ping thing Boss or Kev? How does one go about doing that? Oh, by the way - THANK YOU for the help folks!!
Flyinfool Posted September 28, 2015 #34 Posted September 28, 2015 The ping thing is fine, but how fast is fast? How slow is noticeably slow? I don't know that my eyes are capable of seeing the difference between 20 and 40 milliseconds
Condor Posted September 28, 2015 #35 Posted September 28, 2015 (edited) what is this ping thing Boss or Kev? How does one go about doing that? Oh, by the way - THANK YOU for the help folks!! That speed test website will check several different websites by pinging them before it starts the upload/download test. Pinging is sorta like sonar on a sub. It tosses a piece of data at the site and waits to see how long it takes to bounce back. Mine will range from .10ms to .18ms depending on the site. Also in my foggy brain I'm thinkin'.... If you can get on the site using a link out of your email reader, you may have a hyperactive tracker watching your moves, or it's broken and slowing up the works??? Run the House Call... Way back in another lifetime I got hit with a virus that wouldn't let me link to any of my desk top icon links. I couldn't go anywhere. By accident I opened up a history section and then double clicked on the last file location address and back doored the SOB. I then found House Call. They scanned the HD's and found 2 viruses. One active and one Trojan due to go off in the future. Back in those days they sent me detailed instructions on how to get rid of them. I worked and I was a happy camper. Now they just kill them without any help from the user. At the end of the 30 days free trial I went ahead and became a paying customer. Ran PC-cillan for many years.... cowpuc Posted September 28, 2015 Author #36 Posted September 28, 2015 Just got off the phone with my provider,, they tested their junk and said they will be sending a repairaholic out in a couple days. Said my line tested outside of their parameters. Also looked up my router, said it was 3 years old (where da heck does time go) and that he would also look replacing it while here. I tried to get em to ship me a new router like they did once before but the tech on the phone said "lets let our guy take care of all of it at one time", good with that since its only suppose to be a couple days till he shows.. So far I have recovered my hard drive (started from scratch), rebooted my router (unplugged and restart), got all my pics and vids backed up on a new external hard drive, tired Explorer on the "new" system = wont run VR, downloaded Firefox = what I am on now and able to get on the site a little, downloaded Google Chrome since my buddy @mirider is putting a whoopin on me with his = cant connect to VR. Puters running superrrr fast again (NICE) but VR is still a hard one to log on.. Another interesting thing that popped into my mind you guys, remember a while back when someone was questioning not being able to log off on the site? I have noticed that I too have a hard time logging off on the log off icon. I know Don mentioned back then that it really doesnt matter cause we get logged off automatically (if I remember correctly:missingtooth:). One of the things I have noticed is that after not being on the site for a couple days is that I am still logged on.. Don, just curious,, is it possible that everyone who logs on is being kept logged on and that is creating some kind of bottle neck or something.. Not trying to make more work for you my friend - just tossing out random thoughts.. Usually, especially lately, it has taken several attempts to log out here.. Not thinking virus stuff Jack cause this is a brand new recovery - like getting a new puter... Wish this were a bike we were all working on together,, puters aint as much fun THANKS AGAIN YA'LL!! Puc

SilvrT Posted September 28, 2015 #39 Posted September 28, 2015 Puc it is PEBCAK AKA PICNIC Problem In Chair Not In Computer
Yammer Dan Posted September 28, 2015 #40 Posted September 28, 2015 Mine is working a lot better last couple days. I don't do computer except to punch on keyboard!! It still at times when I click on something just sits there. I have learned to hit back button and do it again. Sometimes takes more than once.
cowpuc Posted September 28, 2015 Author #41 Posted September 28, 2015 @cowpuc, if there's anything I have learned from knowing you, it's that everything you do is outside parameters. Puc = Parameters Undermine Cowpuc.. That applies to even simple things like getting together with a few really good friends for Hot Dog and a Can of pop dont it @mirider AKA PICNIC Problem In Chair Not In Computer Oh great Silv,, now I gotta get a new chair too? :mo money: Mine is working a lot better last couple days. cowpuc Posted September 29, 2015 Author #46 Posted September 29, 2015 ya .... but stay away from those I. D. 10 T. ones... ,,,, ahhh ohhh,, another one of those varmints speaking in code,, send smoke signals Silv = THOSE I can figure out:doh: Our provider fixer upper man was just here.. This thing is rippppppinnnnn again!! Apparently my router may have been part of the problem.. He said something about it being old and being set to being constantly looked at for authentification where this new one goes right thru and is not being constantly monitored.. Also moved it upstairs so now I have 5 bars of signal instead of 3.. Checked all the lines, set up the phone on 1 pair and the router on a separate pair too.. I explained to him how competitive our site is and that, being a hard core 1st Gen rider - I aint use to losing.. Guy died laughing ( - guess he dont really understand the difference between the 1st n 2nd Gen Ventures:rasberry:), then he said - well the way I have you set up now - you have a 1st Gen streetbike so you got em whooped there and a 2nd Gen router that is showing 3g of speed so you got em whooped there too = BEST OF BOTH WORLDS:guitarist 2::happy65::happy65: Cant WAIT for this winter when all 12000 members are on the site and I am still able to zip around the site like a chicken pecking ants:bowdown: THANKS again for all the assistance you guys, sorry if I added to your work load @Freebird but thank you for checking things out on your end my friend.. Keep Puc
Freebird Posted September 29, 2015 #47 Posted September 29, 2015 WOW! 2344ms to load? Ping= 36.8ms? THAT seems really slow. WOW...you think that 2344ms is SLOW. It's loading a LOT of stuff and that translates to 2.3 seconds. Sorry, I don't consider that very slow.
H2O Posted September 29, 2015 #48 Posted September 29, 2015 WOW...you think that 2344ms is SLOW. It's loading a LOT of stuff and that translates to 2.3 seconds. Sorry, I don't consider that very slow. I've only been an active member for a year, and before that another year just reading but I too am seeing noticeably slower loading, especially on the side bars. It seems worse at times. I guess it's no big deal but I got kind of spoiled by how speedy the site was.
cowpuc Posted September 29, 2015 Author #50 Posted September 29, 2015 Router?? Is that a Yamaha Part?? Yep,, I thinks it a 2nd Gen part though cause its the part that keeps bike from getting the riders lost.. The part that pranksters like you and I would have never been able to use anyway Dan:big-grin-emoticon:
