Charlie Bravo Posted September 19, 2015 #1 Posted September 19, 2015 Hello everyone, I'm having some frustrating electrical issues: 1. Bike runs on three cyliders. #3 no spark at all. coil ohms checked out power to red and white wire. Cant get a ohm reading on the yellow wire in larger tci plug. the others check out. ive tried three different tci. same issue 2. Battery lighjt flashing on cmu very dim. cmu goes blank when side stand down. 3. no turn signals. ive replaced wires. ran great for a day then all of this started to happen.Battery is new. Thanks in advance. I have received very helpful information from reading many threads here. CB

Wizard765 Posted September 19, 2015 #3 Posted September 19, 2015 is it possible that you have a bad coil?
Flyinfool Posted September 19, 2015 #4 Posted September 19, 2015 The spark plug boot can be disassembled. Take it apart and clean all of the parts (careful there is a spring in there), they have been known to corrode and block the spark. While you have it apart there is a resistor in there, it should measure around 5,000 ohms. DO NOT sand the ends of the resistor to clean it, sanding it will kill it. when putting it back together, cut a quarter inch off the end of the wire before screwing the cap back on.
bongobobny Posted September 19, 2015 #5 Posted September 19, 2015 Did all of these problems start at the same time?? Did they start after the new battery? The CMU may need soldering on the connector as vibration through the years may have weakened the solder. The reason I asked about the battery is you may have a defective new battery or a loose connector. Do some voltage testing on the battery on the connectors and not the battery itself as well as on the battery connector. Any difference will indicate some resistance on the connections. You may also have a bad connection on the fuse holders as they are known too create problems as they age. There is a kit available from member Skydoc_17 to convert to modern blade type fuses. As far as the turn signals go, do the 4 way flashers work properly??
Charlie Bravo Posted September 20, 2015 Author #6 Posted September 20, 2015 Thanks guys. Here's the update ; flashers working. loose contact at relay all cylinders firing. yellow wire to tci broke loose. reconnected now the cmu keeps flashing when i ground the light blue wire. neutral light on but cmu goes blank when side stand switch goes up. tested the switch and good all around. removed the gear selector cleaned the contacts and grounded each contact. no gear indicator on cmu. but the cmu no longer is dim when i hit each contact, except for the neutral lead.

Also the fuse box has been upgraded to blade type
Charlie Bravo Posted September 20, 2015 Author #8 Posted September 20, 2015 Here's the latest. the short seems to be somewhere in the safety circuit including side stand switch, brake switches (bank and front), gear selector. something here is shorting. no gear indicator markers just N. when in neutral cmu dims and blinks. when you shift to 1st the lcd goes solid and bright. sidestand switch icon works, so does oil(drained it). going back to neutral blanks and dims. cmu cycles and battery warning blinks. ??????? GRRRRR... So close. checked cmu and circuit board connectors all look solid. Holy Gremlin chase Batman!!!!
