Saddle tramp Posted September 17, 2015 #1 Posted September 17, 2015 What goes behind it,some clip that goes on something under side cover?I had one just poked in a hole.Miracle I did not lose it.I am thinking it is probably something like I saw on aircraft for years.Anyone on here gonna ride route 66,I live so close to it.In Ok.we have probably 80% still intact.People come from Europe to ride it.I have seen little of it,no excuse.Would like to see those Cars buried nose down out in west Texas someday.I have seen many T.V. shows about the Mother road, there is still much to see.It would be great to all meet up on it someplace someday.
M61A1MECH Posted September 17, 2015 #2 Posted September 17, 2015 Depends on which one you are talking about there should be two, now I foget which is which, but one is just there for show, he front one I think, there is a nut welded inside the side cover for that one, the back one goes into a hole on the frame to hold it, not sure , threaded hole or nut plate or clip of some sort. Those ones for show, can come in handy, if you ever loose the bolt that holds your shifter on, those side cover bolts will fit and get you home. On the front end (inside) of the side covers they have two tits on them that fit into rubber grommets. take out the one astening screw and pull and wiggle the cover and she will come right off.
Saddle tramp Posted September 18, 2015 Author #3 Posted September 18, 2015 It was inside of the two outer cover bolts.I saved it at least, will hang on to it.No way to get a nut on it I am sure of that.
M61A1MECH Posted September 19, 2015 #4 Posted September 19, 2015 Just pull the cover off and you can put a nut on it.
djh3 Posted September 19, 2015 #5 Posted September 19, 2015 If it is front one of 2 it should have the nutplate. Rear one remove cover and check to see if the bracket/nutplate are still usable. If not maybe a helicoil to repair it.
