tufftom4 Posted September 13, 2015 #1 Posted September 13, 2015 I am looking for a bike under 600lb to put on a trailer hitch channel mount I am tired of doing the trailer and when I get to where I am going if it is not a pull through I have to unload the bike and leave the trailer, with a small bike I can just keep it on the back of the motor home my ? is what to recommend.
CaptainJoe Posted September 13, 2015 #2 Posted September 13, 2015 Here's some ideas: http://www.motorcycleforums.net/forum/cruisers/51238-need-ideas-about-smallest-lightest-2up-bike-sizes.html
djh3 Posted September 13, 2015 #3 Posted September 13, 2015 Forget listed weight of my 900 kawi vulcan. It was a good bike. Early ones were known to have stator probs, but are probably all fixed by now. Lol HD 883 might fit in there also.
Freebird Posted September 13, 2015 #4 Posted September 13, 2015 I also think that it depends upon what kind of riding you want to do on it. One up, two up, mostly highway or back roads. There are some good choices but first you have to decide how it will be used.
Condor Posted September 13, 2015 #5 Posted September 13, 2015 How about something like this... 1200cc's and 575#. http://www.yamahamotorsports.com/sport/models/super-tenere
Sailor Posted September 13, 2015 #6 Posted September 13, 2015 my old Yamaha 400 was great. enough room for 2 up and enough speed for the highway but light weight and nimble on the back roads. Being a 400 the insurance was cheap.
Yammer Dan Posted September 13, 2015 #7 Posted September 13, 2015 My old 750 Yammy would fit that bill. Still a lot of them around and not major to put most of them back in decent shape. Ya cain't have mine....LOL:Avatars_Gee_George:
eagleeye Posted September 13, 2015 #8 Posted September 13, 2015 One of the newer Triumph Bonneville's would fit the bill perfectly. 451 lbs dry weight. And a 2000 to 2006 should be in the price range you are looking at.
Kroc Posted September 14, 2015 #9 Posted September 14, 2015 I've never heard of a Wee-strom owner that didn't love it.
RedRider Posted September 14, 2015 #10 Posted September 14, 2015 KLR250 or KLR650. Cheap and reliable. Not the best for inseam challenged folks though. RR
awsmsrv Posted September 16, 2015 #11 Posted September 16, 2015 How about the Versys 1000 LT? 549#. I'm seriously considering it for my next bike.
litteacher Posted September 16, 2015 #12 Posted September 16, 2015 KLR250 or KLR650. Cheap and reliable. Not the best for inseam challenged folks though. RR I second the KLR650. That is my daily driver and although it is the ugliest motorcycle ever built and it sounds like an old farm tractor with its single piston banging around, it is soooooo much fun to drive.
Venturous Posted September 16, 2015 #13 Posted September 16, 2015 (edited) I've seen Goldwings hanging on the back of Class A motorhomes. So that is possible apparently with right type channel rack. But, if under 600lb is your goal... I have a bike that I think is a great smaller bike. Although no longer made. But you can find many low mileage used ones. That is the Honda 750 Magna's. 540lbs wet. Since they are a V4 just like the Ventures, they pump out serious HP in a little package. And unlike many smaller cc bikes, are still very smooth at highway speeds. With the right windshield, leather bags, and passenger backrest would work for light touring. I added a J&M handlebar CB to mine so I can talk with my son when he rides with me. Edited September 16, 2015 by Venturous
BlueSky Posted September 16, 2015 #14 Posted September 16, 2015 All depends on what style bike you like to sit on comfortably. The small cruisers, adventure bikes, sport bikes, etc are all entirely different in seating positions and comfort. Seems to be a lot of new Vtwin street bikes offered now such as the Honda NC700X.
KIC Posted September 16, 2015 #15 Posted September 16, 2015 I agree on the KLR650. I loved my KLR and only sold it to get my 87 for my son. My next bike is another KLR650. They are great for street and dirt. They can also be carried on a hitch rail, just make sure it is a heavy duty rail and use one of these which are worth their weight in rhodium. I recommend these to anybody who pulls a trailer or uses any type of trailer hitch carrier. http://www.drawtite.com/vh070hd.html
Goose68 Posted September 16, 2015 #16 Posted September 16, 2015 My Father n law rides a Suzuki Burgman 650 and loves it. Very easy for him to get on and off and will run highway speeds all day.
