I will be starting a crowd funding for "Poor West Coast Canadians who want to have fun with their US friend but our dollar sucks" Campaign shortly.

cowpuc Posted September 21, 2015 #34 Posted September 21, 2015 Camping/prices? Here in Michigan our State and Federal lands are similar to most of the western States = open - camp for free anytime.. Anyone know if WV is like that and if there are State/Federal Lands in the area of where the International will be held?
slowrollwv Posted September 21, 2015 #35 Posted September 21, 2015 Yes Puc Canaan valley is on the edge of Monongahela National Forest with a few state parks in the area. I would not advise you to pull off on some gravel road and through up your tent, you may be in someone's driveway. I know you would say that you were and and beg to stay.
etcswjoe Posted September 21, 2015 #36 Posted September 21, 2015 Camping/prices? Steve, Looks like $29 a night at the resort, 10% off for vets. http://canaanresort.com/13/accomodations/camping/
Venturous Posted September 21, 2015 #37 Posted September 21, 2015 I would urge all to NOT jump into start reserving places. A few years ago when I hosted an event out of Canaan Valley Resort I worked with the group event staff to come up with lodge rates significantly less than the listed rack rates. They also gave me discounted rates on campsites. I would wait until Chuck has a chance to look into a possible group rate. Chuck, am I correct to assume you plan to contact the resort about group rate? If so, I would also push them to throw in a nightly gathering area and maybe have them give a quote on a banquet if that is something you are considering.
Eck Posted September 21, 2015 #38 Posted September 21, 2015 Camping/prices? http://www.blackwaterfalls.com/rates_camping.htm You can Google camping in / near Davis, WV for more info.
Eck Posted September 21, 2015 #39 Posted September 21, 2015 Cabin rentals. Click on the link below and the map that appears will show you where several rentals are in the area. Hope this helps. One could rent a house that sleeps 6 or 8 and then try to find others who would want stay with them and split the cost https://www.flipkey.com/search/map/?l=58999&cq=1
slowrollwv Posted September 21, 2015 #40 Posted September 21, 2015 http://www.blackwaterfalls.com/rates_camping.htm You can Google camping in / near Davis, WV for more info. Eck the only problem with using this camping area to Canaan is about 14 miles of deer infested highway, not a good thing early evening or at night.
Freebird Posted September 22, 2015 Author #41 Posted September 22, 2015 Folks, it's a LONG time until the rally. I recommend that you all wait for a few days. We are working on group discounts and etc. May still be too high for some of you and it that's the case, then of course stay where you wish. But let's wait and see what they come up with. It's always fun when as many as possible are at the same place.
Eck Posted September 22, 2015 #42 Posted September 22, 2015 All the information that I have posted is premature (like me) and for information purposes only. As Freebird mentioned (above post), there have been no calls made to any motels (by me) for group rates or for VR.Org discounts of any kind. I only posted the information to give all of you an easy way see what was available at the present time and their basic rates so you can decide where you may want to stay. I wont be posting anymore info for a long time if at all on this subject.

Slowrollwv, I don't camp and don't care too, but I posted this info because of post #33 by eagleeye asking about camping. Please note that in my posting, that I also included the recommendation to perform a Google search on camping in that area in case he (or others who want to camp) may find better, closer, cheaper accommodations that they may like.

I understand that you were trying to give good info for camping. I was just stating that there is a lot of deer in this area and running these roads in the evening or at night is very dangerous especially for motorcycles. I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers and I am grateful for all the help that I can get for the rally.

No feathers ruffled here my friend, and sorry if I came across that way for it was NOT my intention. Not at all. I surely don't want anyone hitting a deer either. .
