ragtop69gs Posted September 5, 2015 #1 Posted September 5, 2015 I'm installing a pair of 18 watt 12v LED floods on the RSV. That converts to 1.5 amp draw for each light, 3 amp total draw. Charts indicate 16ga wire for the length required, is a 5 amp fuse sufficient? Any advantage to using a relay on this low draw circuit? Seems a toggle switch should handle 3 amps without a relay just fine. I know just a little more about electric than I do nuclear power !
MikeWa Posted September 5, 2015 #2 Posted September 5, 2015 A toggle switch should be just fine. However if you want to connect them through the headlamp switch then a relay would be the way to go. Mike
ragtop69gs Posted September 5, 2015 Author #3 Posted September 5, 2015 I want these switched separately, with their own dedicated wire runs.
Bert2006 Posted September 5, 2015 #4 Posted September 5, 2015 I would alway's go with a relay...no matter what
djh3 Posted September 6, 2015 #5 Posted September 6, 2015 Should be fine. I have been pretty happy with the mini toggle switches from radio shack. Small easy to hide.
Carbon_One Posted September 6, 2015 #6 Posted September 6, 2015 If your concerned about the amps going thru a mini switch you could run the setup by just using the switch on the ground side of the wiring. Probably don't need a relay either with such low amps but for peace of mind you could add one. Larry
bongobobny Posted September 7, 2015 #7 Posted September 7, 2015 The ground side will draw the same amount of current...
ragtop69gs Posted September 8, 2015 Author #8 Posted September 8, 2015 It's all installed, no relay, we'll see how it does. Pics to follow.

djh3 Posted September 9, 2015 #10 Posted September 9, 2015 Man those remind me of some aircraft Taxi lights I had installed many moons ago. They were on a GS1100 Suzuki and if you turned them both on at same time I think it slowed the bike. LOL Those are looking sporty. Almost same idea I had.
ragtop69gs Posted September 9, 2015 Author #11 Posted September 9, 2015 They throw some good light even adjusted pointing down low. They are both flood 20* floods, I'm going to replace the left one with a spot beam. $20 a pair off ebay, 1500 lumens 18 watts Not sure what happened with the pics posting sideways
