Anybody have a CD changer in their bike ?

I got a Clarion 6 Disc changer with the Hannigan but it wasn't installed. I was told that the wires were tucked in under the trike kit bit I haven't looked yet. The question I have is "how is the unit controlled ? " I have a changer - period. I'm sure there has to be something to tell it to play etc. It surely doesn't integrate into the bikes audio system like the radio controls ?

If the cd changer came on the bike as my 09 was then it is controlled through the radio pod on the left handlebar. If it isn't hooked up, then it will not show it in the control pod. I took mine off several years ago, so I'm not sure if it will even show up without a disc in the drive. Anyway, it(the changer) should be connected by a large round cable(C-bus) that runs forward to the front fairing and is connected to the audio harness up there.

Yes, if it has the proper cables, it does integrate into the bikes control pod. Once it is hooked up and plugged in, it will show up on the pod.

On another note, unless someone has removed it from the bike since it was new the wiring should already be on the bike. It originally was routed into the left saddlebag from the backside. The 09's came standard with the cd changer, or at least mine did.

I would add that when you get it to work, don't forget to turn the cd player off, eg. switch to radio or aux before you shut off the ignition otherwise it will drain your battery.

I had a CD player on my 07 for 7 years, never turned it off when I parked it, never had a problem, but in Florida it was ridden at least once a month, never parked for the winter like some places.

like Steve I never seemed to have any issues regarding battery draining once the bike was off. Does it depend on the bike? The connections? Any excess electrical farkles?

Thanks for the info - it makes a lot more sense now. The po said that I would have to drill a hole for the cable. I guess I need to decide where to mount it, or rather where the cable will allow me to mount it

I mounted mine in the trunk of my 07, as I recall there was a rubber plug on the right side floor that you could slit to bring the cable thru.

The factory mounting system is what really takes up the space, I did not get that on the free one I received from anoter member here, so I stood it on it's side and removed the cargo net on the front bulkhead of the trunk. I fashioned some aluminum straps and foam packing material to create a cradle to hold it up against the front bulkhead. I then installed the cargo net back in place using tiewraps to allow it to "stretch" around the CD player. You do have the change a couple of screws or some thing on the unit to allow it to work properly on its side, but it is easy and if you look a the case there are instructions or arrows pointed to the positions of the screws verse mounting position. I think I have photos still on another computer or disk, if you are interested, PM me with an email address and I will see if I can find them.

Thanks Steve - I'll probably mount it flat as I already have the wrap around metal mounting bracket. If the cable is long enough I'll also put it in the tour box just for easy access. I'm dealing with a Hannigan trike kit so I don't know for sure where it will go -

Just to complete my offer from a prevous post, here is a link to my CD install in the trunk Took up alost no room and very seldom skipped, but if you drop you bike over on to the left side, it plays havoc with the changer and stuff the CDs in places they are not supposed to go, do not ask how I know, just trust me.

I haven't decided how to do it yet but I'm pretty sure that if I put the bike on the side, I've got more trouble than a CD skipping.

That's a good reason in itself but there is also the much bigger question of why bother with CD's at all? Just because you have one does not necessarily mean it is worth the effort and cost of installing it.

 

Rip the music to MP3 files and play on your phone or even separate MP3 players if you and your passenger like different music. It takes no room, doesn't skip, is less prone to damage and has no wires if streamed to a Bluetooth headset.
