rickardracing Posted August 31, 2015 #1 Posted August 31, 2015 As some of you know, I have an issue with my 1000 lb lift I bought. Pump lasted for 3 uses. Well after many emails and waiting 14 weeks for a new pump, it arrived a last week. I installed it yesterday. Made sure it had plenty of oil, bled the air out per their instructions and it lifted the bike. ONCE. dropped it down, tried lifting it again and no way, no how, uh uh, not gonna happen. I emailed them requesting an authorization for a refund at my local store. Done with their half baked crap quality stuff. I will never shop there again.
frankd Posted August 31, 2015 #2 Posted August 31, 2015 Now I'm glad I started the thread asking if any others had experience with this lift. I was going to purchase one while it was on sale, but now I'm going to keep looking. Harbor Freight does have some items that are great for home use, but they also have some junk. When I moved to Tennessee, I was happy to find out that there was a Harbor Freight store only 8 miles away, but I still don't buy very much there. Good luck with your refund. Frank
Eck Posted August 31, 2015 #3 Posted August 31, 2015 I hear, feel and can relate to your anger and disappointment in HB equipment. I bought a set of extensions and every one of the ends broke off..not near as expensive as a lift but same point on the cheap stuff they sell. I have found a few good things though. Just one thought here that you may have already thought of, but maybe there is another manufacturers pump that would fit/replace the pump you have? If you could find another type pump you might could end up with a darn good lift? Just a thought..
etcswjoe Posted August 31, 2015 #4 Posted August 31, 2015 I look at Harbor Freight this way if I am only going to use it once I will buy it from them cheap, if I plan on using it over and over I buy from someone else.
BlueSky Posted August 31, 2015 #6 Posted August 31, 2015 I have bought a lot of hand tools there and I am happy with them. I even have a couple of $29 1/2" drive impact wrenches that are decades old that still work fine. The 3/8" drive impact ratchet didn't last many years with my home use. Replaced it with an IR. Hydraulic jacks and electric motors, not the best. A few days ago, I needed a ball joint press for my old 02 F150 and I planned to buy HF, but many reviews talked of the press which is a giant c-clamp bending. So, I bought an OTC press made in the USA from Tool Topia. It worked great!
rickardracing Posted August 31, 2015 Author #7 Posted August 31, 2015 I could change to a different pump if I redesign the whole unit. The pump is actually welded to the pivot point, so just bolting on a different pump is not an option. Iam not going to invest anymore time or money into this P.O.S. It just needs to be gone at this point. Completely disgusted with it. It really ticks me seeing it sitting in my garage. Waiting on a reply from HF.

Saddle tramp Posted August 31, 2015 #9 Posted August 31, 2015 I bought some T-Handle allen wrenches from Jegs a few day's ago,it said "free shipping".Today I get invoice and see $4.99 for "handling". What was a good buy became average fast,I will never buy from them again. As far as I am concerned they lied to me.Handling my ass.
billmac Posted August 31, 2015 #10 Posted August 31, 2015 Too bad about your lift. Have a HF lift going on three years now and never have a problem. use to have a Sears across the street from the HF store and I couldn't tell the difference.
dacheedah Posted August 31, 2015 #11 Posted August 31, 2015 Mine went so I replaced it with a big red pump, cheap but still workin after many years.
Brake Pad Posted August 31, 2015 #12 Posted August 31, 2015 The downside to working with companies like this is as of like Home Depot and Lowe's they are just the supply agents most of these companies by spots on their shelves or solicit their product through a vendor. Trying to contact Home Depot Lowes or as of this one Harbor freight they would have to forward that message onto the supply company which is most likely Japan China or somewhere like that the unfortunate up that is they put out so many products they just don't care. The upside to this is if you can find a manufacturer's registration already think that affect you may be able to find aftermarket parts were directly contact the manufacturer and see if a part can be available at work as I had to go to Japan for a drive shaft for my Yamaha venture which stripped out on my bike at 12,000 miles . The Yamaha shop that I was working with refuse to honor the service contract on my bike because I had a trailer hitch.
rickardracing Posted September 1, 2015 Author #13 Posted September 1, 2015 Well they are sending me a prepaid shipping label. Once I receive that, they want me to box it up and send it back using the label. Once they receive it, they will "special order" another pump and send it to me. So another 14-16 weeks. First they suggested I take it to a "hydraulic repair specialist" for repair on my dime. I let them know what I thought of that idea. So they offered to do a free exchange. Undecided what to do at this point.
djh3 Posted September 1, 2015 #14 Posted September 1, 2015 Hit and miss on their jacks. I have a alum "racing type" jack that has given me many years of good service. But when I worked in a race shop we bought 2 of the hyd lift tables (supposedly like 500 lb cap) and they lifted a maybe 100 lb gearbox 2 or 3 times before it puked. We had O rings and I rebuilt the one, but it still only lasted about 3 months. The shop bought 3 of the same racing type jacks I have and they still work far as I know and are like 15yr old. For whatever reason the lift stands and tables, ATV type jacks just dont seem to have good jacks in them.
YamahaLarry Posted September 1, 2015 #15 Posted September 1, 2015 I have their 1500 lb motorcycle lift and been using it for 4 or 5 years. The only issue is it only lets bike down 1 speed, so you better have hold. I have bought many of their products, some good, some bad. It is what it is. If it is something that I use daily, or heck, even weekly, I will purchase elsewhere. If it is an every once in a while took, and it looks and feels ok, I will buy it, but realizing what I am buying. I have a die grinder and a cut off tool that I have been using for 8 years or so, and both are still working great. Bought them for like 10 bucks each. On the other hand, I have a DA sander that has air hissing thru it when it is just simply connected, but works. Just don't leave it hooked up unless you are wanting to give the air compressor a workout. I will still buy from them. But only certain products. BTW, I was looking at Sears little red 1500 lb jack. It is identical to the HF yellow one, except for the paint and label.

Not only does a trailer hitch negate your service contract but it also voids your manufacturers warranty. At this time I can only vouch for HD, have yet to check into Honda. (we sell and service both) but warranty is void, period if you install a hitch on a Harley.
Hummingbird Posted September 1, 2015 #17 Posted September 1, 2015 playing devils advocate - You get what you pay for. Seldom is something BETTER than the price paid initially and one should expect a lessor product when paying a lessor price.

If I take my bike in for service I remove the hitch and pull the trailer wiring back (far enough to "hide" it).
RedRider Posted September 1, 2015 #19 Posted September 1, 2015 You may want to look at this. Not sure where in MI you are, but this is outside Ann Arbor. http://annarbor.craigslist.org/mpo/5192402069.html RR
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted September 1, 2015 #20 Posted September 1, 2015 The only questions I have are.... how is it plugged in? Is it hard wired? Plugged into a recepticle? Use an extention cord? Amprage of recepticle adiquit?
midnightrider1300 Posted September 2, 2015 #21 Posted September 2, 2015 bought a HF MC jack... pump leaked all the oil out for no apparent reason, replaced it and it has not leaked again...like others have stated try a different jack if possible....Sometimes cheap isn't better, but neither is high dollar ....

RedRider Posted September 2, 2015 #23 Posted September 2, 2015 It is. Go to your local Yammie dealer and it is likely what they have in their shop. The table only needs to be long enough to get the rear wheel on it, not as long as the bike OAL. RR
Freebird Posted September 2, 2015 #24 Posted September 2, 2015 From all that I've seen and read, Handy makes a good lift. If I had an extra 700.00 laying around, I would own that one. Though I think I would prefer just air over hydraulics for my use. I would still buy it though.

Actually the HF I bought the lift from is in Ypsilanti. Money is tight right now, but had I seen this when I bought my HF POS, I would have got it instead.
