Ok, sounded simple enough when the RSV riders on two wheels told me about the Barons 1 1/2 risers. However, there is no room to put them in because the fairing sits too low to the risers. It needs to lift/tilt up and away from the bars to give at least 1/2" more clearance. I'm guessing the problem is due to the Hannigan rake mod to the front end?? Soooo, I'm guessing that if I can dismount the front panel/fairing maybe I can shim it to give me the clearance I need. Now, I have the fairing and the handlebars off but how do I get the front panel loose from the bike???? The tech manual doesn't help.. I don't think I need to take it completely off, just loosen enough to shim it.

I am assuming you are speaking of the inner fairing. To loosen this section of the fairing would be hard (for me anyway) to explain since I really don't work on the RSV's anymore or very little.

I vaguely remember removing the head light and head light bracket, then there are two bolts behind this bracket that hold the inner fairing on. I remember "marking" and then disconnecting wire harnesses too to make room to move the inner fairing.

Someone else may jump in here shortly to help you. Hang in there, I'm sure you thread will be noticed by someone with greater knowledge than I have. I forgot more than I knew about the RSV's.....:confused24::think:

Take the outer fairing off.

Unplug the electrical connectors...they should all be either color coded or similar plugs.

Then from a forum post about lowering the front end..."Remove two 12mm nuts that hold the inner fairing, behind the top of the headlight, a 3/8 extension works great, and two 5mm allen bolts, one at each side just behind the bottom of the headlight."

Then you can add spacers to the 12mm nuts....maybe a few washers. Don't know if you will get your half inch.

My Baron's extensions make for a tight fit without your kit...

Do you have the Hannigan front end mod and the same problem? The fairing beneath the 'cruise' button was almost touching the OEM risers. No room for extended risers.

Tnx for the reply. Will search for 'lowering front end'.

Searched the site, didn't find anything that explains how to take off the inner fairing/pannel.

I think you should rethink installing risers. Even without the rake kit the risers are not the best fit on the RSV. I believe everyone who has installed them have the same problem, the risers hit the black plastic ignition switch cover and if you have the chrome cover it will break the plastic. I had to remove my chrome cover and go back to the black cover. The black cover has more give to it. I wise I never installed the risers and went with a set of Flanders bars. Problem with doing that is $$. to do it right you should change out the cables. Also it you do manage to install the risers you will need to re-route the cables to make sure you have enough slack in them when the bars are hard over. Probably not what you wanted to hear. If you continue to look through old posts on the subject you will also find info on what to do with the rubber shock absorbers between the fairing and the bars. They will have to be repositioned. New bars are a lot easier.

Having very recently removed the inner faring and reinstalled it, I am not sure you can shim it out any, or very much to give you the room you are wanting. If you try to just move it away from the forks some, then you will have an issue with the bottom bolt under the headlight not being able to tighten without possibly causing some binding or alignment issues.

If I remember correctly, it is bound at 3 points. One being the bolt I mentioned, another is 2 bolts from the side that bolt the headlight housing to the front forks and 2 studs/nuts that fasten the inner faring to the headlight frame. There is a picture on page 3-3 of the Service Manual that shows how it is all connected.

I don't know if I could put much taller risers on mine without lowering the forks, and that would seem to defeat the purpose.

I have had 1 1/2 inch risers on mine for 100,000 miles. It did crack the chrome ignition cover just a little but unless you look for it you can't tell. And at $40 I can afford to replace it every couple of years if needed.

I cut mine down to fit (the rubber pieces) and placed the curved part on the top of the handlebars and it then pushes up on the fairing to keep it from vibrting and moving. I'll try and get you a pic
