frodotoo Posted August 30, 2015 #1 Posted August 30, 2015 Took off for a ride yesterday and noticed my speedometer (2005 Midnight RSV) was not working, nor was the odometer. But the clock did. What else doesn't work? Well the auto turn signal cancel. But the turn signals work. And the cruise control. Lights flash on and the on indicator light stays lit. Checked the fuses on the left side and all is well there. Haven't removed the lower right cowling to check those yet. Manual shows all three of these controlled by different fuses anyway. So where do I look now?? Thanks as always for any info shared!
frankd Posted August 30, 2015 #2 Posted August 30, 2015 All of those things rely on the signal from the sensor in the rear wheel hub working. Did you unplug it and forget to plug it back in? Now, I'm not a 2nd Gen. person, so somebody else will have to chime in, but basically there is a sensor (probably a pickup coil or a proximity switch) in the rear wheel that provides a signal that is dependent on wheel rotation. Every pulse and the odometer moves ahead some. How often the pulses occur makes the speedometer work. The turn signal cancel needs so many pulses before it cancels the signals. Bottom line....something is unpluged, the sensor has gone bad, or the wire from it is either grounded, shorted or open.
