Mike G in SC Posted August 29, 2015 #1 Posted August 29, 2015 Can someone point me to an existing tech thread on upgrading the RSV front calipers to the R1 or similar? Is it simple bolt on swap? Do our existing pads fit those calipers? Does a member/vendor sell them? Where would you buy and expected price each? I chased a little on Google and looked like not all years of the R1 fit. Is there another model that also fits and is an upgrade from RSV? Wouldn't mind a little better stopping in the front. Thanks, Mike G in SC
Atoolnut Posted August 29, 2015 #2 Posted August 29, 2015 i upgraded mine with 2007 roadstar calipers...along with the 14mm master cylinder..it was an easy swap...remove all rsv calipers bolt on roadstar bleed...pads are different...i searched for r 1 r6 calipers but found roadstar was just the same ..four piston...found mine on fleabay..think around $200 ...included m/c....there was a member selling them .
BratmanXj Posted August 29, 2015 #3 Posted August 29, 2015 Upgrading to Late 90's/Early 2000's R1 or R6 calipers while still using the stock 5/8" master improves braking performance but leaves you with vague brake feel. As @Atoolnut, I also swapped out an entire setup, calipers and master, from an 02-05 Road Star WARRIOR; 06-up Road Star also have the 14mm Master & 4-pot calipers. These generations of the Road Star & Warrior are the same calipers as the previous generation 4-pot sport bike calipers.
Mike G in SC Posted September 1, 2015 Author #4 Posted September 1, 2015 Thanks, I saw a full set of 2009 Road Star Warrior calipers, master cylinder and brake lines on-line. Will they work on a 2009 RSV? Improvement over RSV stock? Atoolnut Posted September 1, 2015 #5 Posted September 1, 2015 dont think so mounts look like radial style..they have to be same style as rsv.
BratmanXj Posted September 1, 2015 #6 Posted September 1, 2015 '06 and later Warriors have radial mounted calipers that DO NOT fit the Ventures, You need '02-05. the later STANDARD Road Star '06 and up (or when ever they changed from the 1600 to the 1700 engine) have the 4-pot calipers that fit the Ventures. Or finding the late model 14mm master cylinder from either of those bikes and use calipers from a late 90's early 2000's R1 or R6.
