Has anyone found another source other than Yamaha for the gaskets that go between the muffler and the collector. I find they want anywhere between 18.00 up to 26.00 apiece for them. That is an outrageous price for a gasket.

Years ago someone on this board used copper wire to wrap the collector ends with some success. In the later years yamaha switched to what looked like a carbon/filament sleeve. The earlier sleeves were made out of copper.

There are a few items on the 1st gens, that are best replaced with OEM parts. The muffler gaskets are one of those items.

I fought with them, tried to make some myself, to no avail. Did not try the copper wire trick though. My advice is bite the bullet

and order the OEM parts.

This also goes for the Clutch, SLAVE, cylinder. If replaceing it order the OEM part. Also the gaskets for the crank case Side

Covers. Both left and right ! Order the OEM gaskets.

Also, if rebuilding the front brake Master , Order the OEM.

Also, if rebuilding the Clutch, master cylinder, Order the OEM .

Also, the Carb, Diaphrams !!! Forget the various GLUE, type repairs, Order new ones while

they are still available, I know, they are expensive, BUT????

Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it !!

Well is says it fits XVZ1300, but I have never seen one on any of my Ventures, someone else will have to chime in on that. I will check the part number on it to see.

Well the part number is shown right in the listing and seems to be correct. Boats.net has them also and shows what they are supposed to fit. You posted this is the watering hole instead of either First Gen or Second Gen tech talk so I am only guessing that you want them for a first gen. That part number appears to be only for the Royal Stars and the second gen Royal Stars and RSVs.

Lewis, that muffler gasket has gone through several renditions and part numbers over the decades. Currently, the part number is 3JJ-14653-00. Before that it was 47G-14653-00. Before that it was 1L9-14714-01. AND before THAT it was 1L9-14714-00. My point is: don't limit yourself to finding just the current part number. For instance, I found NOS PN. 1L9-14714-01 on eBay for $14.99 with free shipping. Here:

Edit: I found the 3JJ-14653-00 "fibrous" gasket at =custom"]Partsnmore for $8.50 each, however shipping for two was another $15+. It is in the XJ750 parts section. Scroll down the page that I linked.

DonB made some of those gaskets from copper pipe. Here is a thread:http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?38717-gaskets-for-collector&highlight=copper+exhaust
