douglasp.burdick Posted August 26, 2015 #1 Posted August 26, 2015 I have just ordered a new set of michillen Commanders for my '05 Venture. I am putting a 130/90/16 up front. What risers do I want? Baron's makes an 1 1/2 " set. Is that what folks are using?
etcswjoe Posted August 26, 2015 #2 Posted August 26, 2015 If you get the risers you will need new cables and brake lines also.
douglasp.burdick Posted August 26, 2015 Author #3 Posted August 26, 2015 If you get the risers you will need new cables and brake lines also. Oh, ok, I can do that. I set up a friends Harley for him when he wanted apes installed along with new braided SS lines and cables.
Gramps69 Posted August 27, 2015 #4 Posted August 27, 2015 I have put 1 1/2 risers on venture and did not have to change any cables or lines.
Triple J Posted August 27, 2015 #5 Posted August 27, 2015 I have put 1 1/2 risers on venture and did not have to change any cables or lines. I did the Barons 1 1/2 as well without needs cables or lines.
M61A1MECH Posted August 27, 2015 #6 Posted August 27, 2015 I did the 1.5" risers also with out changing the lines or cables, did have to fidle with the throttle cables a litttle to reposition them, but that was just loosening the clamps and moving the cables around. Check for binding of the throttle when the bars on the stops. With the risers they will hit the black cover on the top of the tank when on full left or right stop, it will leave a small mark on the shroud but it is flexible enough to bend out of the way without cracking. Another thing that helps the handling of the 2nd Gen are leveling links, they raise the rear by 3/4", helps the slow speed handling a lot.
Ace Posted August 27, 2015 #7 Posted August 27, 2015 Cables and hydraulic lines will be tight but they will work with the risers you are looking at. A good cheap way to get a little longer cables and lines is to search on ebay for a set from a 05-09 Tour deluxe, they are exact same as RSV cables except 2-3" longer.
videoarizona Posted August 27, 2015 #8 Posted August 27, 2015 I have Baron's 1/1/2 inch "extensions". Also lowered the front end 3/4 inch using free method. Stock cables are fine. Only thought is if you are going to lower the front end, do so when you have everything apart before you put the risers on. Might as well....you are halfway there anyway.
ragtop69gs Posted August 28, 2015 #9 Posted August 28, 2015 If you do get some 1 1/2" risers you should get longer cables, it can be done without them but longer is better. To do longer cables on the cheap just get a set from a Tour Deluxe , they're the perfect length and can be had cheap on the used market.
