Chaplain Dusty Posted August 29, 2015 #26 Posted August 29, 2015 Puc, Also, I will call the dealer in Sandusky Monday and give the necessary sounds to them for Stan to hear that '88 run. I will let you know the outcome. I understand their position since I have a down placed on the bike. I am also forwarding the insurance info to them which should relax them somewhat. Chaplain Dusty
stanG Posted August 30, 2015 #27 Posted August 30, 2015 Well I had a nice little chat today with Mr. Konn the previous owner of the bike. Real nice guy and a huge Venture fan. He was a former member of the Venture Touring Society. The bike has indeed 20000 miles on it. He said there were no issues with the bike when Powersports got it other than the front fork seals may have been leaking and the carbs needed to be cleaned as the bike had sat for several years. This was the third Venture that Mr Konn owned having previously owned two 84's. The second of which was stolen leading to his purchase of the 88 brand new in the crate in 1991. The second 84 was recovered but trashed but he did show a low mileage COMPLETE with carbs motor that he saved out of it that he is storing. Mr. Konn took many long trips with this bike until while riding with a group of 5 Ventures and 2 Goldwings a member of their group was cut-off by an errant driver and killed. He didn't say specifically but I think this incident ended his riding career. Powersports ended up with the bike when Konn was making a deal on an atv. FYI they gave him 700 bucks for it so they have that plus the cost of fork seals, a rear tire and a carb cleaning into it. If Chaplain Dusty has any questions for Mr. Konn he would happy to take his call. He gave me his number and rather than just throwing it out there you can PM me and I will pass it along. Of course I mentioned that would have easily given him a $1000 for it I had known he wanted to get rid of it LOL. "Have fun out there" stanG

Chaplain Dusty Posted September 3, 2015 #29 Posted September 3, 2015 I'm getting anxious. I fly to Michigan a week from tomorrow to pick up the '88. Puc, I'm headin' at you and then skating to Pittsburgh to see my only grandchild. She just turned 1 years old on May 28. Goin' to try to hook up with Stan. We will see. From Pittsburgh, headin' back to New Mexico. Chaplain Dusty:biker::biker::biker:
BlueSky Posted September 3, 2015 #30 Posted September 3, 2015 I admire your optimism, buying a 27 year old bike and riding it thousands of miles around the country and back home. I hope the bike is as reliable as you expect and you have a very safe, enjoyable ride.
Chaplain Dusty Posted September 4, 2015 #31 Posted September 4, 2015 Blue Sky, I don't try to be optimistic or pessimistic. I try to be realistic about it. I do not think the optimist asks enough questions and the pessimist is throttled before he can even start. However, I do believe with the given mileage of the bike and the condition of the bike that has been verified by my venture rider brothers, that it will be a successful ride. It will be a long one and weather is a consideration. I do plan on taking my time. It has been a while since I've done a long road trip on a bike. But, I am anxious and even excited to see states that I've never seen before. So far, everything has fallen into place very nicely. I definitely will keep you posted on this thread. Chaplain Dusty
cowpuc Posted September 7, 2015 Author #32 Posted September 7, 2015 Ever noticed how time slows down when your waiting to make the aquaintance of yet another good friend?
Venture n Dixie Posted September 7, 2015 #33 Posted September 7, 2015 Assuming the bike runs good, would it be a decent price if it had 120000 miles on it? Is that the original seat?
Chaplain Dusty Posted September 7, 2015 #34 Posted September 7, 2015 I haven't seen many bikes with 120,000 on them to be in the shape as this one is. I would say that the seat is not the original, at least I would not go for the velveteen material. The 20,0758 miles are accurate. I will be in Michigan to pick it up on Thursday and I will shed more light on the subject. Chaplain Dusty
ragtop69gs Posted September 7, 2015 #35 Posted September 7, 2015 I will be in Michigan to pick it up on Thursday Chaplain Dusty What airport you flying into? Time? Maybe a meet & greet is in order!
Chaplain Dusty Posted September 7, 2015 #36 Posted September 7, 2015 I am flying into metro Dwayne county at 2:15 and the Yamaha dealership is to meet me and take me to Sandusky to pick up the bike. Chaplain Dusty
stanG Posted September 9, 2015 #37 Posted September 9, 2015 Depending on how fast you get out the airport that would put you in Sandusky at about 4:00-4:30. Have a good trip.
ragtop69gs Posted September 9, 2015 #38 Posted September 9, 2015 A bit late for me, my pt job starts at 2:30. Safe travels.
