Saddle tramp Posted August 24, 2015 #1 Posted August 24, 2015 Something funny is going on at Walmart and it ain't plumbing trouble.Live near one shut down.Cop's outside say it was gutted. This can not be?Wall street went crazy today, things are falling apart. It is over. The party is over.
PBJ Posted August 25, 2015 #2 Posted August 25, 2015 Probably someone in there cutting out the pipes for scrap
BlueSky Posted August 25, 2015 #4 Posted August 25, 2015 Lots of smart people have been predicting a serious crash/recession/depression and advise you to keep a stash of cash and enough food and water to last at least a month. If it does happen you may need some gvns/ammo.
djh3 Posted August 25, 2015 #5 Posted August 25, 2015 We were in Franklin NC earlier this summer. On like the north side of town was where Wal Mart was. Now it it a mile or so closer to town, brand spanking new building and the older one sits empty. We gat a pizza from a place next to the old WM and the fellows in there said something about plumbing or electrical issues. Had 2 close here in Fla for suposed plumbing issues. If our US economy is crashing there aint nothing I can do. Im just screwed.
Flyinfool Posted August 25, 2015 #6 Posted August 25, 2015 I would think that a person could find something in a Walmart easier and more valuable than ripping out copper for scrap. But then I would not get to read the dumb criminal stories in the mags.
Sailor Posted August 25, 2015 #7 Posted August 25, 2015 Sometimes it is cheaper in the long run to build a new building than try to bring an old one up to code. They could strip an old building, build a new one in a better area, sell the old site and still come out ahead.
BlueSky Posted August 25, 2015 #8 Posted August 25, 2015 I remember reading an article recently about a Walmart that was closed for plumbing issues. there had been protests about wages and the plumbing problem just happened about the same time so the store close for repairs and the workers didn't have a job for a while.
aharbi Posted August 25, 2015 #9 Posted August 25, 2015 Sometimes it is cheaper in the long run to build a new building than try to bring an old one up to code. They could strip an old building, build a new one in a better area, sell the old site and still come out ahead. Many times they will move just across the city/country line to avoid taxes. I do not believe them to be "honorable" in their business practices. Then again look at Washington DC. It's every man for himself.
Sailor Posted August 25, 2015 #10 Posted August 25, 2015 I believe it was in Quebec that the employees tried to unionize so they simply closed the store.
ricksbike Posted August 25, 2015 #11 Posted August 25, 2015 Why would there be cops outside an empty store?
etcswjoe Posted August 25, 2015 #12 Posted August 25, 2015 Why would there be cops outside an empty store? We had an empty grocery store in town for several years and someone was always breaking in and doing something stupid, meth labs, stealing copper, people living in it building campfires and many other things the cops showed up for.
Sailor Posted August 25, 2015 #13 Posted August 25, 2015 Just got a notice from my financial adviser that the market has taken a hit world wide due to the fall of the Chinese economy. This seems to be panic selling and they expect the market to recover in 3-4 weeks.
cowpuc Posted August 25, 2015 #14 Posted August 25, 2015 Why would there be cops outside an empty store? maybe the store manager misspelled the Do Not Enter sign = Do Nut Enter
