Huggy Posted August 24, 2015 #1 Posted August 24, 2015 I'm in need of a front Left brake caliper and was wondering if anyone would have one I could buy from them? I don't need the pistons and stuff just a good caliper. I would love to buy the set that Skydoc 17 sells but need to wait for the Canadian $ to improve before I can do that.
Condor Posted August 24, 2015 #2 Posted August 24, 2015 Instead of fiddling around with rebuilding an OEM caliper, why don't you shop eBay for a set of R1 or R6 calipers and replace them both. The '86 already has 4 pistons so there probably won't be much stopping improvement... if any, but certain times of the year the R's can be found in very nice condition for around $50 bucks for the set. They will both fit in a medium International flat rate box for around $15US.
Huggy Posted August 24, 2015 Author #3 Posted August 24, 2015 Condor that's what I'm probably going to do. I have my eyes on a nice set on Ebay from a 05 for $65.
BratmanXj Posted August 25, 2015 #6 Posted August 25, 2015 Condor that's what I'm probably going to do. I have my eyes on a nice set on Ebay from a 05 for $65. Both R1 & R6 in 2005 (blue bike) were Radial Mounted Calipers that won't fit out bikes and You'll have to find a set from an older bike like the 2001 (red bike) that mount horizontally to the fork leg.
Huggy Posted August 25, 2015 Author #7 Posted August 25, 2015 Now I'm confused I was told blue fit red don't. The Blue ones I am looking at have horizontal mounting bolts.

Condor Posted August 25, 2015 #9 Posted August 25, 2015 Why don't you give us the eBay # and we'll confirm.
Prairiehammer Posted August 25, 2015 #11 Posted August 25, 2015 The color of the R6 is not a good indicator of brake caliper compatibility. For instance, there was a blue 2001 R6 with calipers that you can use.
Huggy Posted August 25, 2015 Author #12 Posted August 25, 2015 Here's a listing for one of the ones I'm watching http://www.ebay.ca/itm/03-04-R6-06-07-08-09-R6S-FRONT-BRAKE-CALIPER-SIDE-OEM-STOCK-RIGHT-/281765521380?hash=item419a88a7e4&vxp=mtr
Huggy Posted August 25, 2015 Author #13 Posted August 25, 2015 Here's another listing for ones I'm watching http://www.ebay.ca/itm/06-07-08-09-R6-S-R6S-Front-Brake-Calipers-Pads-/351485517430?hash=item51d62b5e76&vxp=mtr

But the list that the seller says is of compatible bikes is incorrect.
BratmanXj Posted August 25, 2015 #15 Posted August 25, 2015 Now I'm confused I was told blue fit red don't. The Blue ones I am looking at have horizontal mounting bolts. Sorry, my color comment was only in regards to the 2 photo's that i put up to show the different calipers/forks relative to the year of the bike. The pictured caliper will work. But the list that the seller says is of compatible bikes is incorrect. Agreed...
Huggy Posted August 25, 2015 Author #16 Posted August 25, 2015 I was wondering about the listing accuracy but then again I looked at a number of them and they all had a similar year range listed.
Huggy Posted August 25, 2015 Author #17 Posted August 25, 2015 OK, I offered the seller $30 for the pair of brakes and he excepted the offer.
Prairiehammer Posted August 25, 2015 #18 Posted August 25, 2015 OK, I offered the seller $30 for the pair of brakes and he excepted the offer. That is a great deal.
Huggy Posted August 25, 2015 Author #19 Posted August 25, 2015 I think it's because they are not for the years he says and had no takers on them. I saw a few others that where also listed in the same manner and they never where sold.
